B2103Ford PATS no transceiver communication

Universal diagnostic code. Below: what it means, common causes, symptoms, and the exact bench-programming fix path.

Common causes

  • PATS receiver ring failed (most common after 15-20 years)
  • Receiver wiring broken / damaged
  • Receiver disconnected during steering column work
  • PCM PATS input damaged from voltage surge

Symptoms you'll see

  • Crank-no-start
  • THEFT light steady or flashing
  • B2103 active with no other PATS codes
  • Same behavior with any key

The fix path

Most cost-effective fix: Ford PATS Delete ($199) bypasses the receiver entirely. Alternative: replace the PATS receiver ($200-400 dealer + 1-2 hours labor + 2-key reprogramming).
