Will This Fix My Problem?
Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.
Fixes:
- ✓EWS module failed, car no-start, dashboard "EWS" warning
- ✓Used DME from another car — needs EWS sync removed to run
- ✓Swapping engines and donor DME does not match recipient EWS
- ✓EWS-related no-crank or crank-no-start
Won't fix:
- ✗Mechanical engine failures unrelated to immobilizer
- ✗Bad DME hardware (we program software, not repair the DME)
- ✗CAS-equipped BMWs (2006+) — see our CAS mail-in service
EWS failed and a replacement EWS is hard to find?
BMW EWS modules are getting harder to source for older E36/E39/E46 cars. Instead of hunting a working EWS, ship the DME and we will permanently delete the EWS dependency in software. The car will start with any key in the ignition and no EWS module installed — a permanent fix that also makes the car much harder to steal-with-key-only.
