Steering lock faultMercedes Electronic Steering Lock (ELV) failure

Mercedes diagnostic code. Below: what it means, common causes, symptoms, and the exact bench-programming fix path.

Common causes

  • Worn ELV motor (single most common Mercedes electronic failure)
  • EIS-ELV communication fault
  • ELV connector damage
  • Power supply to ELV interrupted

Symptoms you'll see

  • Steering wheel locked when key inserted
  • Engine won't crank
  • "ESL" or "EIS/ELV" warning on cluster
  • Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

The fix path

Mercedes ELV Emulator ($350) is the permanent fix — bypasses the failure-prone motor with electronic-only emulation. Ship only the EIS (not the failed ELV). We pair an emulator + return both ready to install.
