AML wins when:

  • You've already identified the failed module
  • The work is bench-only (no on-car diagnostics needed)
  • You're outside manufacturer warranty (almost always for the chassis we cover)
  • You want a flat-rate quote in writing before any work starts
  • You can be without the car for 5-7 days (typical mail-in round-trip)
  • You're an indie shop or locksmith who doesn't have dealer-level tooling

dealer programming wins when:

  • Your car is under active manufacturer warranty and aftermarket programming would void it
  • The work requires the car to be present (on-car diagnostics, intermittent faults, sensor work)
  • You're willing to pay 5-10x for the dealer relationship (insurance coverage, certified records)
  • Your insurance is covering the work and dealer is contracted
  • You need a specific dealer SCN service that only Mercedes XENTRY can perform (rare)

Bottom line

Out-of-warranty cars + identified-module faults = AML wins on price by 5-10x. In-warranty cars or non-module diagnostics = stay with the dealer.

Frequently asked

Honest answers, no marketing fluff.

Why is the dealer so much more expensive?
Dealer pricing includes diagnostic-bay time ($150-$300/hr), SCN coding portal fees, shop overhead allocation, and parts markup. Most of the cost is labor + facility overhead, not the actual programming. Bench mail-in skips all of that.
Will programming a module outside the dealer void my warranty?
For out-of-warranty vehicles (almost all of what we work on), no — no warranty to void. For in-warranty vehicles, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects you for repairs that didn't cause the failure, but some manufacturers push back. Talk to your dealer if you're still under warranty.
Does the dealer give better records for insurance claims?
Slightly — dealer invoices have manufacturer line-items. AML provides a detailed workshop invoice + bench-test photo + tracking documentation. Most insurance carriers accept both; check with your carrier first.
