BMW CAS & EWS3 Security-Module Cloning — Failed Module Replacement, Keys Preserved

BMW cranks but won't start after a CAS or EWS3 failed — or you dropped in a used one and it won't accept your keys? Mail in your original plus a matching donor and we clone the complete data — ISN, keys, VIN, mileage, coding — so the replacement is plug-and-play and your existing keys keep working.

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • CAS or EWS3 failed and the car won't start or won't recognize keys
  • Water- or corrosion-damaged CAS module needs replacing
  • Used CAS installed and the car cranks but won't start (identity mismatch)
  • You want existing keys preserved instead of re-coding or re-cutting
  • Intermittent no-start / no-crank traced to a failing CAS
  • Replacing a CAS / EWS3 and you want the donor plug-and-play before it goes in

Won't fix:

  • Does not include the donor CAS / EWS module — you source a generation-matched used unit (we verify it first)
  • Does not clone a stone-dead original whose memory can't be read — that becomes our ECU advanced recovery service (board repair or a direct chip read), quoted separately
  • Does not cover F-series CAS4 / CAS4+ under this listing — different architecture, handled separately
  • Does not add a new key to a healthy module — that's our BMW CAS key programming service
  • Does not delete the EWS / immobilizer handshake — that's our BMW DME EWS delete service (MS41-MS45, ME7.2/ME9.2, MSV70, MSV80/81, MSD80/81, MINI EMS2)
  • Does not clone the engine ECU — a DME cloned onto a donor with the ISN preserved is our BMW DME ECU clone service, and a used F-chassis DME matched to your CAS or FEM/BDC is our BMW F-series used-DME programming service
  • Does not cover the FRM2 / FRM3 footwell module, BMW and MINI FEM/BDC, or the KBM gateway BCM (E60, E63/E64) — those are our FRM repair, FEM/BDC, and central gateway module clone services
  • Does not fix a no-start caused by fuel, spark, sensors, wiring, or a dead battery
  • Does not bypass proof of ownership

Your keys keep working — that's the whole point of cloning

A replacement CAS or EWS3 comes blank: it doesn't know your car and it doesn't know your keys, so a bare swap leaves you with an engine that cranks but never starts and keys the module won't accept. Cloning solves both at once — we copy your original's ISN, key data, VIN, mileage, and coding onto the donor, so the module installs plug-and-play and your existing keys work exactly as before. No re-cutting, no re-coding, no dealer visit. The donor must match your generation (CAS3 to CAS3), and because this is immobilizer work, proof of ownership is required before we begin. One listing covers every generation — EWS3 on the E38/E39/E46/E53, CAS1 on the E65/E66 745i/750i/760i, CAS2 on early E60/E90/E70 and R55–R57 MINI, and CAS3/CAS3+ on the E82/E88, E90-E93, E60 LCI, E63/E64, E70, E71 and E89. Neighbouring modules live on their own pages: the FRM2/FRM3 footwell module is our BMW FRM repair, BMW and MINI FEM/BDC work is our FEM/BDC key programming and bricked-module recovery, and the KBM gateway BCM on the E60 and E63/E64 is our central gateway module clone.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN plus photos of your original CAS/EWS module label and the donor's label — a technician confirms the donor is a generation match (CAS3 to CAS3) before you ship. Then send both modules (original + donor) to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1009 Oakwood Ln # 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We clone the data on the bench, test communication, and ship both back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).

What to include in your box

  • Your original CAS or EWS3 module AND the donor module
  • Year, make, model, and chassis (e.g. 2008 BMW 328i E90)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • CAS / EWS part number off BOTH module labels (we pre-verify the generation match)
  • How many working keys you currently have
  • What is wrong now: dead module, cranks-no-start after swap, water damage, etc.
  • Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale)
  • Your name, return address, and phone number

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Which BMW modules and chassis does this cover?
EWS3 (E38, E39, E46, E53), CAS1 (E65, E66), CAS2 (early E60 and E9x), and CAS3 / CAS3+ (E60/E61/E63/E70/E71/E82/E90/E91/E92/E93). It does NOT cover the F-series CAS4 / CAS4+ — that's a different architecture we handle separately. Send us your VIN and a photo of the module label and we'll confirm your generation before you ship or buy a donor.
Will my existing keys still work after the clone?
Yes — that's the point. We copy your original module's ISN and key data onto the donor, so the cloned module recognizes your existing keys exactly as before. No re-cutting, no re-coding, no new keys to buy. The car sees the same immobilizer identity it always had, and the swap is plug-and-play.
How is this different from CAS key programming or a DME EWS delete?
Three different jobs. CAS key programming ADDS a key to a healthy module. A DME EWS delete REMOVES the immobilizer handshake so a DME runs without the CAS/EWS. This service CLONES a failed CAS/EWS onto a donor so you can replace a dead module and keep everything working. If your module is healthy and you just need a key, or you want the handshake removed, those are our separate services.
Do you supply the donor CAS / EWS module?
No — you source a used donor from the SAME generation as your original (CAS3 to CAS3, EWS3 to EWS3), from eBay, a salvage yard, or a parts recycler. Match the BMW part number on the label as closely as possible. Send us photos of both labels plus your VIN before you buy and a technician confirms the pair is compatible, at no charge.
My original CAS is completely dead — can you still clone it?
Cloning needs a readable original — if the module still powers up and its memory reads, we clone it. If it's stone dead and the memory can't be read at all, cloning isn't possible; that becomes an advanced recovery job (board repair or a direct chip read) at the recovery tier. Send us the VIN and symptoms and we'll tell you which path yours is before you ship.
Does this cover F-series CAS4 / CAS4+?
Not under this listing. CAS4 and CAS4+ (F-chassis) use a different architecture and a different procedure, and later F-chassis cars use FEM/BDC instead. We handle those separately — send your VIN and we'll point you at the right service. This service is specifically for EWS3 and CAS1/2/3/3+.
Do you need proof of ownership?
Yes. The CAS/EWS is the car's immobilizer, so cloning it is security work — we require proof of ownership (title, registration, or a bill of sale) before any work begins. This protects you and keeps the service legitimate. It's a standard step and doesn't slow the job down once your paperwork is in.
How much is it and how does the mail-in work?
It is $250 flat. After a technician verifies your VIN and both module labels are a generation match, you ship the original and the donor to Auto Module Lab in Arlington, TX. We clone the data on the bench, test communication, and ship both back with tracking — return speed your choice at checkout (Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).
