CAT 70-Pin ECM Repair: the short answer

Auto Module Lab accepts Caterpillar 70-pin repair enquiries from truck owners and repair shops nationwide through its Arlington, Texas workshop. The reference starting price is $775 for assessment of an original-module repair, subject to an individual quote. This is not an exchange ECM listing. Send the complete module label, VIN, engine serial number and diagnostic report first. Bench capability, acceptance, fees and turnaround must be confirmed in writing before payment or shipment.

Compare all heavy-duty module services · Send the label and diagnostic report first. Acceptance and bench test coverage are confirmed for each unit.

Your repair enquiry

  • Individual module and application review before acceptance
  • Written scope and pricing before chargeable work
  • Original-module repair assessment; replacement is a separate proposal
  • Agreed test results and return arrangements for an accepted job

Send the complete module label, VIN, engine serial number and diagnostic report. We confirm the application and available bench test coverage before accepting the unit.

Compatibility

Confirm your part matches one of the variants below before ordering. Not sure? Text us a photo and we'll verify.

Identify the controller by its label and connector arrangement. An engine name such as C15 does not establish that the ECM is a 70-pin unit; later hardware and different applications need a separate match.

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Suspected internal power or communication faults after vehicle checks
  • Intermittent controller operation requiring fault isolation
  • Suspected internal output-circuit damage after external circuit diagnosis

Won't fix:

  • Unresolved truck wiring, ground, battery or connector faults
  • Mechanical engine faults or failed sensors and injectors
  • A derate without diagnosis of its underlying cause
  • Unmatched donor modules or guaranteed plug-and-play interchange

Before you order

  • You diagnose, we service the module.

We don't have your car and we don't diagnose it. Order once you or your mechanic have confirmed this module is the cause. If the work is completed and the car still has the same symptom because of another fault, the work is still done — a bench re-test under warranty is free.

  • A clone copies what is in your module.

We transfer the data as we read it. If another shop or tool already worked on the module — an unfinished clone, a tune, a delete — that data can come across too. Tell us before you ship.

  • What "plug-and-play" means.

No dealer programming should be needed when your original data is intact, the donor matches your module (same type, hardware and software family) and the rest of the car works. It isn't a promise that the car will start or run.

What we repair on this module

Board-level faults, not symptoms. These are the specific failures our bench process targets.

Assessment scope for Caterpillar 70-pin: internal supply, communication and output circuits, depending on the exact hardware and test coverage.
Component replacement, trace repair or BGA work is considered only when diagnosis supports it. Reballing is not a universal cure.
Software recovery or calibration work requires separate confirmation of lawful tooling access, correct application and readable source data.

Our bench process

What happens between your module arriving and it going back in the box.

  1. 1

    Identify the exact controller

Record engine serial number and ECM part number before removal. Have the shop verify the battery feeds and ground voltage drop under load. Include the affected cylinder and the results of injector and harness testing.

  2. 2

    Confirm acceptance and the quote

We review the fault history and available bench test coverage. Wait for written acceptance, diagnostic-fee terms, repair scope, warranty terms and a turnaround estimate before paying or shipping.

  3. 3

    Diagnose before reworking

For an accepted unit, the agreed assessment separates a hardware fault from a software or vehicle-side problem. Any additional chargeable work requires your approval. Severe corrosion, previous damage or inaccessible data can make repair unsuitable.

  4. 4

    Verify the agreed functions

The completed job is checked against the agreed bench test scope. Bench testing cannot reproduce every truck operating condition; the installing shop must verify vehicle wiring, operation and any required configuration.

Why repair your original?

The case for keeping the module that is already married to your vehicle.

Keep the known hardware

An original controller already has a known relationship to the truck. Where its data remains intact, repair can reduce replacement setup, but configuration preservation is not guaranteed.

Avoid buying the wrong donor

Identify the controller by its label and connector arrangement. An engine name such as C15 does not establish that the ECM is a 70-pin unit; later hardware and different applications need a separate match.

Repair vs used vs replacement

This page prices a repair enquiry, not a replacement module. Shipping, tax and any separately approved programming are confirmed in your quote.

Before you remove the controller

A truck that loses engine communication when warm, cuts out intermittently, or has an injector circuit complaint after the external circuit has been checked needs a module-level assessment. A replacement injector alone does not establish that the ECM is responsible.

Shipping after approval

Do not ship until written acceptance. Your quote confirms the destination, diagnostic fees, packaging, return shipping, warranty and turnaround. Send only the approved items.

  • Original controller only after written approval
  • Printed label details, VIN and engine serial number
  • Contact information, fault report and approval reference

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us with your module label and diagnostic report.

Does a CAT C15 always use the same ECM?
No. Engine model, serial prefix, controller hardware and application all matter. Send photographs of the complete label and both connector faces. A similar housing or matching engine badge is not a reliable interchange test.
How much does Caterpillar 70-pin repair cost?
The reference starting price is $775. The final scope and total are quoted after reviewing the exact controller and fault history. Confirm diagnostic fees, shipping, tax, programming and warranty before proceeding. There is no automatic checkout for this enquiry.
Can I send the module today?
Please wait for written acceptance. We must confirm the exact hardware, bench capability and available test scope first. A listing is not a guarantee that every variant or failure is repairable.
What diagnostic information should I send?
Record engine serial number and ECM part number before removal. Have the shop verify the battery feeds and ground voltage drop under load. Include the affected cylinder and the results of injector and harness testing.
Will the repaired unit need programming?
That depends on the damage, readable configuration and application. Retaining the original hardware may preserve configuration, but programming-free installation is not guaranteed. Any required calibration or vehicle setup is confirmed separately.
Is this an emissions-delete service?
No. This enquiry concerns controller diagnosis and repair to correct hardware faults. DPF, EGR, DEF and other emissions-system deletes are not part of this service.
