PROXI Alignment & wiTECH Programming — Done Remotely

The Ram that hates its new BCM

A 2019 Ram 1500 gets a body control module. The part is right, the install is right — and the truck lights up like a Christmas tree: U-codes across the bus, wipers with opinions, remote start gone. Nothing failed. On a Stellantis vehicle the BCM is not just another module; it is the keeper of the vehicle configuration, and every other module on the bus checks its own copy against the BCM's. Swap the BCM — or several other modules — and the copies disagree.

The fix has a name every Chrysler tech knows and most independents meet the hard way: PROXI configuration alignment. It propagates the configuration so the modules agree again, and until it runs, they will not.

We run it remotely, through your J2534, while the truck stays on your lift.

The Stellantis session, itemized

$250, booked with a preferred time on the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram session page. What wiTECH 2 covers over OBD, the session covers:

  • PROXI configuration alignment after BCM, radio, cluster and other configuration-bearing swaps
  • PCM / TCM / BCM module programming — replacement programming and calibration updates
  • RF hub replacement — programming and alignment so remotes and passive entry return, with PROXI run after so the configuration propagates
  • Restore Vehicle Configuration where the procedure calls for it
  • Key and immobilizer functions the platform supports over OBD, as part of marrying replacement modules
  • Calibration updates — the TSB fixes that are software levels

The honest boundaries, same as every platform: supported procedures vary by vehicle, module and security requirements; refunded if the supported procedure can't be completed.

The secure gateway, handled properly

From roughly 2018 onward, Stellantis vehicles put a secure gateway (SGW) between the OBD port and the modules — the reason a scan tool can read codes but not clear them on a late Jeep. Programming on these vehicles requires authorized access through the gateway, and our sessions run with it rather than around it. That is the whole sentence: no bypass hardware, no folklore — authorized access, the way the procedure is meant to run. It is also one more reason a shop's tenth Stellantis programming job is easier bought as a session than learned as a stack of registrations.

Where remote stops on this platform

Two boundaries worth stating before they cost you a bay.

First, the universal one: a module that no longer talks on the bus cannot be reached over OBD. Dead GPEC-family PCMs are our daily bread — as a mail-in bench clone, where the original's identity is copied onto a donor. The remote session then handles any in-car steps. The two halves of this business exist for exactly this platform.

Second, used modules: Stellantis parts hold their donor's identity tightly, and some will not accept in-car procedures until they have been virginized on the bench. Tell us what you bought before the session and we will tell you which path it takes — the replacement-module walkthrough covers the general shape.

What your side looks like

The standard remote setup: your J2534 in the OBD port, Windows laptop online, battery maintainer on — and for Stellantis specifically, patience budgeted for the bus to settle after PROXI runs. Straightforward alignments are quick; module programming plus alignment plus relearns can fill an hour. Both interfaces in our kits cover the platform's J2534 workflows, so if you own neither, the Domestic Kit's RLink X3 is the natural fit for a Mopar-heavy shop.

Frequently asked questions

What actually is PROXI alignment? The procedure that copies the current vehicle configuration from its keeper (the BCM) to the other modules so they all agree. Manufacturers in the Stellantis family require it after configuration-bearing modules are added or replaced; without it, mismatched modules set codes and disable features.

Which repairs trigger the need for it? BCM replacement is the classic, but radio, cluster, RF hub and several other swaps carry configuration too. If a Stellantis vehicle "worked before the part and misbehaves after," alignment is the first suspect.

Can you unlock the secure gateway? We run sessions with authorized SGW access where the vehicle requires it — that is different from "unlocking," and it is the only version we offer.

My replacement PCM is used — will it program? Maybe as-is, maybe after bench virginizing; Stellantis modules vary. Ask before you buy the part — a two-minute question against a wasted core charge.

Why is this platform $250 when GM is $100? Chrysler-family procedures involve extra security handling and longer sequences than GM's — the same reason our bench prices the platforms differently. The price reflects the work, not the badge.

The truck already had PROXI run and still shows U-codes — now what? Then something on the bus is genuinely not answering, and that is diagnosis, not alignment. A session can scan and point; a module that will not communicate is a bench candidate.
