Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Limp mode / stuck in one gear with a "transmission — visit workshop" message
  • Used EGS installed and the car won't shift or won't start
  • No-shift, harsh, or flaring shifts traced to the transmission controller
  • Drive-authorization / start fault after an EGS swap on an FBS Mercedes
  • An EGS that still responds but is failing — clone it before it dies
  • You need a second-hand EGS made plug-and-play for your exact car

Won't fix:

  • Does not include the donor EGS — you source a matching used unit (we verify the part number first)
  • Does not revive an EGS that is internally dead or unreadable — a dead original cannot be cloned (ask about our Advanced ECU / Module Recovery service for burnt or no-communication units)
  • Does not cover the 722.9 conductor plate — that is a different unit and our separate service
  • Does not repair mechanical transmission faults, valve bodies, solenoids, or the harness
  • Does not remove or bypass the immobilizer / drive-authorization system
  • Does not guarantee zero on-car steps — some installs need a short shift-adaptation drive cycle
  • Does not bypass proof of ownership

EGS vs. 722.9 conductor plate — make sure you're ordering the right one

These get confused constantly. The EGS (EGS52/EGS53) is the standalone electronic gearbox controller used on the 722.6 5G-Tronic and its NAG1 Chrysler-group twin — it plugs in as its own box. The 722.9 7G-Tronic uses a conductor plate with the VGS controller integrated into the valve body, which is a completely different unit and a different service. Cloning an EGS copies its learned adaptation, VIN, coding, and — on FBS-linked Mercedes — the drive-authorization relationship onto a part-number-matched donor. Send us your VIN and a photo of the module label and a technician confirms which unit you actually have before you buy a donor or ship anything. Proof of ownership is required for drive-authorization work.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN and clear photos of your original EGS label and the donor's label — a technician confirms the part numbers are a compatible match before you ship. Then send both units to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1009 Oakwood Ln # 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We clone on the bench, test communication, and ship everything back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).

What to include in your box

  • Your original EGS (if it still powers up — this is the clone path) AND the donor EGS
  • Year, make, model, and transmission (e.g. 2006 Chrysler 300C 5.7L NAG1)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • Part number off BOTH EGS labels (we pre-verify the match)
  • Whether it is a Mercedes 722.6 EGS or a Chrysler-group NAG1 EGS
  • What is wrong now: limp mode, no-shift, no-start after swap, etc.
  • Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale)
  • Your name, return address, and phone number

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

What is an EGS and which cars use one?
EGS is short for Elektronische Getriebesteuerung — the electronic transmission control unit. The Siemens/Continental EGS52 runs the Mercedes 722.6 5G-Tronic, and the closely related EGS53 is the same family branded NAG1 on Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep. That covers a lot of ground: W203/W211/W164/W251 Mercedes and the Crossfire, Sprinter, 300, Charger/Magnum, and Grand Cherokee/Commander on the Chrysler side.
Why won't a used EGS just work when I plug it in?
A brand-new EGS ships blank and has to be coded, and a plain used one carries the donor car's adaptation and VIN — and on FBS-linked Mercedes, the donor's drive-authorization relationship. So it lands in limp mode or won't start. Cloning copies your original's adaptation, VIN, coding, and drive-authorization data onto the donor so it drops in as if it were your own unit.
Is this the same as the 722.9 conductor plate service?
No — and this is the most common mix-up. The EGS (EGS52/EGS53) is the standalone controller on the 722.6 and NAG1. The 722.9 7G-Tronic instead uses a conductor plate with the VGS integrated into the valve body — a different unit and a different service. Send us your VIN and module-label photo and we confirm which one you actually have before you buy a donor.
Do you supply the donor EGS?
No — you source a used donor (eBay, salvage yard, parts recycler) and we verify compatibility before you buy or ship. Match the part number on the EGS label as closely as possible; send us photos of both labels plus your VIN and a technician confirms the pair will work.
My original EGS is completely dead — can you still clone it?
Only if it still powers up and responds. Cloning reads data OUT of your original, so a unit that is internally dead or unreadable cannot be cloned. If yours is that far gone, contact us with your VIN and symptoms — depending on the platform there may be another path, and we'll tell you honestly before you ship anything.
Will I need anything done at the car after install?
On most jobs the cloned EGS drops in and drives. Some installs benefit from a short shift-adaptation drive cycle so the transmission relearns your driving and shifts settle in, and on certain applications a scan-tool adaptation reset helps. We tell you up front whether your job is likely to want that step, so there are no surprises.
Does the immobilizer or drive-authorization stay intact?
Yes. On FBS-linked Mercedes the EGS is tied into drive authorization, and cloning carries that relationship across so the car starts and shifts normally — your keys keep working. This is not a delete or a security bypass, which is why proof of ownership is required before any drive-authorization work begins.
How much is it and how does the mail-in work?
It is $250 flat. After a technician verifies your VIN and both EGS part labels, you ship the units to Auto Module Lab in Arlington, TX. We clone on the bench, test communication, and ship everything back with tracking — return speed your choice at checkout (Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).
