Mercedes & Chrysler Crossfire Bosch ME2.8 ECM Cloning — Mail-In Engine Computer Bench Service (~1998–2008)

Bolted in a used engine computer and now the Mercedes or Crossfire cranks but never catches? Mail in your original Bosch ME2.8 plus a part-number-matched donor and we clone the identity, immobilizer relationship, and calibration across on the bench so the donor installs plug-and-play with factory security intact.

What transfers on a clone

ECM identity so the car accepts the donor as its ownImmobilizer / drive-authorization relationship with the EIS or SKREEMEngine calibration and variant codingStored adaptation values where readableResult: a used ECM that installs plug-and-play with factory security still active

Best for

Failed original ECM being replaced with a second-hand unitDonor ECM already installed and the engine cranks without firingWater-, heat-, or corrosion-damaged ECM that still responds — clone it out before it diesCrossfire owners with no dealer path for a replacement engine computerAvoiding a dealer-only coded ECM order plus a tow

Not this service

Crossfire keys and SKREEM work — see our Crossfire remote key and valet key servicesMercedes EIS cloning or key programming — separate listingsImmobilizer delete — we do not remove drive authorization on this listingDiesel CDI and V8 ECMs — different controller families, contact us to verifyInternally dead ECMs — see our advanced ECU recovery service

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Used ME2.8 ECM installed and the engine cranks strongly but never fires
  • Original engine computer failed and the dealer quote for a coded replacement is four figures
  • Drive-authorization or start-error behaviour immediately after an ECM swap
  • No communication with the engine ECM and you already have a donor unit ready
  • Water, heat, or corrosion damage to an ECM that still responds — clone it before it dies completely
  • Crossfire with a failed engine computer and no dealer replacement path

Won't fix:

  • Does not include the donor ECM — you source a part-number-matched used unit and we verify it first
  • Does not clone an ECM that is internally dead and will not power up or respond — see our ecu-advanced-recovery-service listing
  • Does not remove or bypass the immobilizer — drive authorization stays fully intact
  • Does not program keys or service the EIS or SKREEM — those are separate key services
  • Does not fix a no-start caused by fuel, spark, sensors, crank position signal, wiring, or a flat battery
  • Does not cover Mercedes V8, AMG M113-family, or CDI diesel ECMs under this listing — contact us to verify yours
  • Does not bypass proof of ownership

The Crossfire is a Mercedes underneath — and the ECM knows it

Chrysler sold the Crossfire, but the platform is a Mercedes R170 SLK and the engine computer is the same Bosch ME2.8 family Mercedes used on the M112 V6. That means a Crossfire behaves exactly like a Mercedes when you swap the engine computer: the ECM is tied to the immobilizer partner in the car — a SKREEM here, an EIS on the Mercedes cars — so a donor unit cranks the engine and never lets it run. Cloning is the fix on both sides of the badge. It also means Crossfire owners are not stuck when a dealer has no answer: the bench path is the same one we use on a W203 or an R170. Proof of ownership is required for any immobilizer-related work.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN plus clear photos of your original ECM's label and the donor's label — a technician confirms the Bosch and Mercedes or Chrysler part numbers are a compatible match before you ship. Once verified, remove both units and ship them to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1009 Oakwood Ln # 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We read, back up, and clone on the bench, test communication, and ship both back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).

What to include in your box

  • Your original ME2.8 ECM (it must still power up to be readable) AND the part-number-matched donor ECM
  • Year, make, model, and engine (e.g. 2005 Chrysler Crossfire 3.2L, or 2003 Mercedes C320 3.2L V6)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • Bosch number plus the Mercedes or Chrysler part number off BOTH ECM labels so we can pre-verify the match
  • What is wrong now: original dead, cranks-no-start after a swap, no communication, water or heat damage
  • Whether your keys currently work and whether the car has ever had EIS or SKREEM work done
  • Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale) — required for all immobilizer-related work
  • A clear photo of the ECM label, plus your name, return address, and email

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

What is a Bosch ME2.8 and which cars use it?
ME2.8 is the Bosch engine control module Mercedes fitted to the M112 V6 and the late supercharged M111 four-cylinder, roughly 1998–2008: C-Class W202 and W203, CLK W208 and W209, E-Class W210 and W211, SLK R170 and R171, ML W163, and S-Class W220. The same controller family runs the 2004–2008 Chrysler Crossfire, including the supercharged SRT-6, because the Crossfire is a Mercedes R170 SLK underneath. The label on your ECM confirms it — send a photo with your VIN and we verify before you ship.
Why won't a used engine computer just start my car?
Because the ECM carries the immobilizer relationship with the car's ignition and security module — the EIS on Mercedes, the SKREEM on the Crossfire. A donor ECM still holds the identity of the car it came out of, so your engine cranks strongly and never fires. Cloning copies your original's identity, immobilizer data, and calibration onto the donor so your car cannot tell the difference.
Does the immobilizer stay active after the clone?
Yes. Cloning keeps the factory drive-authorization system fully intact and your existing keys keep working exactly as before. This is not an immobilizer delete and it is not a security bypass, which is also why proof of ownership is required before any work begins.
Is this the same as your Crossfire key service?
No — they solve different problems. The Crossfire remote key and valet key services deal with keys and the SKREEM immobilizer module when you have lost keys or need a spare. This service is the engine computer: cloning your ME2.8 ECM onto a donor so a used engine computer will run the car. If you need both, tell us and a technician will sequence them.
How do I pick a compatible donor ECM?
Match the Bosch number and the Mercedes or Chrysler part number on your original's label as closely as possible — same engine and same hardware level is the goal. Send us photos of your label and the donor listing before you buy anything and we will confirm the pair free of charge. Sourcing the donor is your side of the job; verifying compatibility is ours.
My original ECM is completely dead — can you still clone it?
If the ECM will not power up or respond, there is nothing to read and a clone is not possible. That job is better handled by our advanced ECU recovery service, which is aimed specifically at dead, burnt, water-damaged, and no-communication units. Send us your VIN and the symptoms before you ship and we will map the realistic path first.
My Mercedes is a V8 or a CDI diesel — does this listing fit?
Not under this listing. V8 and AMG applications and the CDI diesels run different controller families with different security handling. Text or email us your VIN and a photo of the ECM label anyway — we handle other Mercedes ECMs case-by-case and will point you at the right service or quote you honestly.
How much is it and how does the mail-in work?
It is $250 flat. After a technician verifies both part numbers by VIN and label, you ship the original and the donor to Auto Module Lab. We back up, read, and clone on the bench, test communication, and ship both back with tracking — return speed your choice at checkout: Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95. This is a mail-in bench service only.
