VW & Audi Bosch EDC15 TDI ECU — Mail-In Immobilizer Off & Donor Cloning (1.9 TDI, ~1998–2004)

Dropped a used 1.9 TDI ECU in and the car cranks forever without firing? Mail in your Bosch EDC15 and we either clone your original's immobilizer data onto the donor so it plugs straight in, or switch the immobilizer off for a legitimate repair, swap, or orphaned platform — immobilizer work only, never an emissions edit.

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Used EDC15 installed and the TDI cranks strongly but never fires
  • Immobilizer light stays on or flashes and the engine cuts within a second of starting
  • Original diesel ECU is failing (corrosion, water, cracked solder) and you want it cloned out before it dies completely
  • Cluster or key system is gone on a swap, kit, or standalone build and the ECU needs the immobilizer switched off
  • Donor ECU from a scrapyard still carries the donor car's identity and blocks your car
  • You want a second-hand 1.9 TDI ECU made genuinely plug-and-play for your exact car

Won't fix:

  • Does not include the donor ECU — you source a matching used unit and we verify the Bosch numbers first
  • Does not perform DPF, EGR, AdBlue, catalyst, or any other emissions edit — we do not offer emissions work at any price
  • Does not revive an EDC15 that is internally dead and will not power up or respond — see our ecu-advanced-recovery-service listing
  • Does not repair injectors, an injection pump, glow plugs, low compression, or any mechanical diesel no-start
  • Does not repair the instrument cluster, immobilizer coil, ignition switch, or wiring faults
  • Does not cover EDC16 or EDC17 ECUs — those have their own dedicated services
  • Does not bypass proof of ownership

Immobilizer only — this is not an emissions shop

The EDC15 editing tools that handle immobilizer data can also strip emissions equipment out of a diesel calibration. We do not do that work — no DPF, no EGR, no AdBlue, no catalyst edits, on this ECU or any other, regardless of what the vehicle is used for. This listing is immobilizer and cloning work only: clone your original's identity onto a donor so a second-hand ECU plugs straight in, or switch the immobilizer off for a genuine repair, standalone, orphaned-platform, or swap build where the original key system no longer exists. Proof of ownership is required, and the customer is responsible for compliance with local, state, and federal law.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN plus a clear photo of the Bosch number on your ECU box — and the donor's label if you already have one — and a technician confirms the variant and hardware match, and tells you whether your job is a clone or an immo-off, before you ship. Once verified, remove the ECU and ship it to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1009 Oakwood Ln # 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We read, back up, and write on the bench, test communication, and ship everything back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).

What to include in your box

  • Your original EDC15 ECU (for a clone) AND the donor ECU — or the single ECU if you ordered an immo-off
  • Year, make, model, and engine code (e.g. 2003 VW Jetta 1.9 TDI ALH)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • The Bosch number and VAG part number off BOTH ECU labels so we can pre-verify the match
  • Which path you ordered: clone to a donor, or immobilizer off
  • What is wrong now: cranks-no-start after a swap, immobilizer light, failing original, standalone build
  • Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale) — required for all immobilizer work
  • A clear photo of the ECU label, plus your name, return address, and email

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Which ECUs and cars does this cover?
Bosch EDC15 diesel ECUs — EDC15V, EDC15P, and EDC15VM+ — on roughly 1998–2004 VW, Audi, Skoda, and SEAT 1.9 TDI cars: Golf Mk4, Jetta/Bora, Passat B5, New Beetle, Sharan, Audi A3 8L, A4 B5/B6, A6 C5, Skoda Octavia, and the SEAT Leon, Toledo, Ibiza, and Alhambra of the same era. Engine codes include ALH, AHF, ASV, AJM, AFN, ATD, AXR, BEW, AWX, and AVF. Send us your VIN and a photo of the Bosch number on the box and we confirm your exact variant before you ship.
Why won't a used 1.9 TDI ECU just start my car?
Because the immobilizer relationship lives inside the EDC15 itself. A second-hand ECU still carries the donor car's immobilizer data, so your engine cranks strongly and never fires, usually with the immobilizer light on. Cloning copies your original's identity onto the donor so the car cannot tell the difference; switching the immobilizer off is the alternative when there is no original data to clone and no working key system left.
What is the difference between the clone path and the immo-off path?
Cloning keeps the factory immobilizer fully active — we copy your original ECU's immobilizer and identity data onto a matched donor, your existing keys keep working, and the donor installs plug and play. Immo-off switches the immobilizer function off in the ECU, which is the right answer for a legitimate repair, a standalone or engine-swap build, or an orphaned platform where the original cluster and keys are gone. Both are $250 flat.
Do you delete the EGR, DPF, or AdBlue while you are in there?
No. We do not perform DPF, EGR, AdBlue, catalyst, or any other emissions-related edit on any ECU, at any price, for any customer. That is a hard company boundary and it does not change based on how the vehicle is used. This service is immobilizer and cloning work only.
How do I pick a compatible donor ECU?
Match the Bosch number and the VAG part number on your original's label as closely as you can — same engine code and same hardware is the goal. Send us photos of your label and the donor listing before you buy anything and we will confirm the pair free of charge. Sourcing the donor is your side of the job; verifying it is ours.
My original EDC15 is completely dead — can you still help?
If the ECU will not power up or respond at all, there is nothing to read, so it cannot be cloned. That job becomes an immo-off on the donor, or in some cases a recovery attempt — see our advanced ECU recovery service. Tell us the symptoms with your VIN before you ship and we will map the realistic path first rather than after you have paid.
Do I need proof of ownership?
Yes. Any immobilizer-related work requires proof of ownership — title, registration, or bill of sale — before we begin. That applies to both the clone path and the immo-off path, whether the car is your daily driver, a purchase, or a restoration project.
How much is it, and how does the mail-in work?
It is $250 flat for either path. After a technician verifies your ECU by VIN and box label, you ship it to Auto Module Lab. We back up, read, and write on the bench, test communication, and ship everything back with tracking — return speed your choice at checkout: Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95. This is a mail-in bench service; inbound shipping is arranged at the time you order.
