VW Comfort Control & Central Electronics Module (J519 / J393) Cloning & Key Programming — Mail-In Bench Service

Passat B6 or CC dead in the driveway after the footwell flooded — no crank, no central locking, and a used comfort module the car refuses? Mail us the original plus a matched donor and we clone the immobilizer, coding, and key data across on the bench, or program a key straight from the module for all-keys-lost.

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Used comfort or central electronics module installed and the car cranks but will not start
  • All keys lost on a Passat B6 or CC, where the immobilizer lives in the comfort module
  • Water intrusion under the driver's footwell or through the plenum drains killed the module
  • Central locking, one-touch windows, interior lighting, or wipers dead or behaving randomly
  • No communication with the comfort or central electronics module on a scan tool
  • A second-hand module that needs to be made plug-and-play for your exact car

Won't fix:

  • Does not include the donor module — you source a matching used unit and we verify the part number first
  • Does not clone an original that is internally dead or will not read — that becomes a data-recovery job, see our ECU advanced recovery service
  • Does not cover cluster-based immobilizer systems on other VAG cars — see our VW/Audi cluster clone service
  • Does not remove or bypass the factory immobilizer — that is our separate VW/Audi immo delete and VIN programming service
  • Does not cover the newer VAG BCM2 architecture — see our VW/Audi BCM2 clone service
  • Does not repair the wiring, connectors, ground points, or water leak that killed the module in the first place
  • Does not bypass proof of ownership

Passat B6 and CC: the immobilizer is in the COMFORT module, not the cluster

On most VAG cars of this era the immobilizer lives in the instrument cluster, which is why our VW/Audi cluster clone service exists. The Passat B6 and CC are the exception: the comfort module carries immobilizer participation and key authorization, so all-keys-lost on those cars is a comfort-module job and the cluster service will not help you. It is also the platform where the module sits low enough to drown — blocked plenum drains push water into the driver's footwell, and the first symptoms are central locking and lighting faults, then a no-start. Clone it while it still reads. Proof of ownership is required.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN plus clear photos of your original module's label and the donor's label — a technician confirms the part numbers and hardware/software index are a compatible match, and confirms whether your car carries its immobilizer in the comfort module, before you ship. Then send both units for a clone, or the module alone for key programming, to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1009 Oakwood Ln # 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We clone or program on the bench, test communication, and ship everything back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).

What to include in your box

  • Your original comfort or central electronics module (this is the clone path) AND the donor module
  • Key-programming jobs: the module alone, plus any key or key blade a technician asks for
  • Year, make, model, and engine (for example 2008 VW Passat B6 2.0T)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • VW part number and hardware/software index off BOTH module labels — we pre-verify the match
  • What is wrong now: water damage, no-crank, all keys lost, used module rejected, central locking dead
  • Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale) — required for all immobilizer and key work
  • Your name, return address, and a phone number or email we can reach you at

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Which module is this, and where does it live in the car?
It is the J519 central electronics control module (Bordnetzsteuergerät) and, on cars that use a separate unit, the J393 comfort control module (Komfortsteuergerät). Depending on the platform it sits under the driver's footwell carpet, behind the kick panel, or under the driver's seat. It manages central locking, windows, exterior and interior lighting, wipers, and — on the Passat B6 and CC — immobilizer participation and key authorization.
My Passat B6 lost all its keys. Is this the right service, or the cluster one?
This one. On the Passat B6 (2006-2010) and the CC (2009-2017) the immobilizer authority sits in the comfort module, not the instrument cluster, so an all-keys-lost job on those cars is read and programmed at the comfort module. Our VW/Audi cluster clone service covers the cluster-based immobilizer platforms instead. Send us the VIN and we confirm which architecture your car actually uses before you ship anything.
Why won't a used comfort module just work when I plug it in?
Because the module carries the donor car's identity, coding, and — on the immobilizer platforms — its key authorization and component protection. Bolt in a used one and you typically get a no-start, or a car that runs but has dead central locking, windows, and lighting because the coding does not match your options. Cloning copies your original's complete data set onto the donor so your car cannot tell the difference.
The footwell flooded. Can you still save the data?
Usually, if the module still reads. Water intrusion through blocked plenum drains is the single most common killer of these modules on the Passat B6, and the first symptoms are central locking and window faults followed by a no-start. We read the original first, before the corrosion progresses any further, and clone it onto your donor. If the board is far enough gone that it will not read at all, we tell you — that becomes a data-recovery job rather than a clone, and you are not charged for a clone we cannot deliver.
Do you supply the donor module?
No — you source a used donor from eBay, a salvage yard, or a parts recycler, and we verify compatibility before you buy or ship anything. Match the VW part number and the hardware/software index on the label as closely as possible. Send us photos of both labels plus your VIN and a technician confirms the pair will work, at no charge.
Does the immobilizer stay active after the work?
Yes. Cloning and key programming both keep the factory immobilizer fully intact — your keys authorize the car exactly as the factory intended. This is not an immobilizer delete. If you specifically want the immobilizer removed for an engine swap or a standalone build, that is our separate VW/Audi immo delete and VIN programming service. Proof of ownership is required either way.
My car is newer and uses BCM2 — does this listing cover it?
No. The newer VAG BCM2 architecture is a different platform with different security, and it has its own service: our VW/Audi BCM2 clone and BCM2 all-keys-lost read services. Send us your VIN and module label photo and we will point you to the right listing rather than take an order for the wrong one.
How much is it and how does the mail-in work?
It is $250 flat. After a technician verifies your VIN and the module part numbers, you ship the units to Auto Module Lab in Arlington, TX — this is a mail-in bench service, we do not come to the car. We clone or program on the bench, test communication, and ship everything back with tracking. Return shipping is your choice at checkout: Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95.
