Command the pump motor from the scan tool. No response with clean wheel-speed live data is the classic internal driver failure. If the motor runs fine and sensor data is ragged, look at sensors and wiring instead.

What 01130 actually tells you on a VW
01130 is a VAG-family code, read with VCDS, ODIS, OBDeleven or a capable aftermarket scanner in the ABS module (address 03, Brake Electronics). The official definition — “ABS operation: implausible signal / signal out of tolerance” — sounds like a sensor problem, and that mislabel sends a lot of owners chasing wheel-speed sensors that test fine. In practice, on the ATE MK60 and MK60EC1 units fitted across the Jetta, Golf, Passat, Bora, Polo, and Tiguan of this era, the code overwhelmingly traces to the pump-motor drive electronics inside the ABS ECU itself.
The decisive test is the one the scan tool gives you for free: the ABS active test (output test) in address 03. On a healthy unit you can command the pump motor and hear it run. With a failed driver stage, the active test either refuses to execute or the motor never responds — while the wheel-speed data in live measuring blocks looks perfectly normal. That combination — clean sensor data, dead active test, 01130 that returns after clearing — is the fingerprint of the internal failure.
These VW units fail this way often enough that the failed driver ICs are a recognized commodity in the repair trade. It is a known-quantity repair on a known-failure platform — which is exactly the kind of fault board-level bench work fixes cleanly.
01130 and 16352 — two codes, one module
MK60-family failures often progress: the motor-drive side sets 01130 first, and as the fault develops the module may begin logging 16352 (“control module defective”) or dropping off the CAN bus intermittently. If your scan shows both codes, that is not two problems — it is one failing controller reporting from two directions, and one repair covers it.

Will the repaired module need coding when it goes back in?
No. Your module’s long coding and basic settings never leave it during a board-level repair. Bolt it back on, clear codes, done. That is the biggest practical difference from fitting a used or new unit, both of which need coding to your car.
I have 01130 and 16352 together — is that two repairs?
One. Both codes are coming from the same failing MK60 controller — 01130 from the motor-drive side, 16352 from the control side. A single board-level repair addresses the module as a whole and both codes with it.
My cheap OBD dongle shows no codes but the ABS light is on. Why?
Generic OBD-II readers often read only engine codes. VAG chassis codes like 01130 live in the ABS module at address 03 and need a VAG-capable tool — VCDS, OBDeleven, or a proper multi-system scanner — to see.
Do I ship the whole pump or just the black module?
