Battery Management System (BMS) Repair & Reset — Porsche Lithium & Volvo 48V Mild-Hybrid

Porsche lightweight lithium battery gone dead and won't take a charge, or a Volvo 48V mild-hybrid battery throwing a fault? Often the cells are fine and it's the BMS board that failed. Mail it in and we repair the electronics at component level and reset the BMS so the pack communicates and charges again — no full-pack replacement price.

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Porsche lithium lightweight battery is dead and won't accept a charge
  • Car won't wake up or power on with the lithium battery fitted
  • BMS communication or charge fault with the battery cells still healthy
  • Volvo 48V mild-hybrid battery module reporting a fault
  • Battery board electronics failed but the pack itself isn't worn out
  • You want the BMS repaired instead of buying a whole new battery pack

Won't fix:

  • Does not replace worn-out or dead lithium cells — a cell-level failure needs a new battery
  • Does not supply a new battery pack — this repairs / resets the existing BMS electronics
  • Does not cover high-voltage traction battery packs on full hybrids or EVs
  • Does not repair physical battery-case damage, swollen cells, or leaks
  • Does not fix charging faults outside the battery (alternator, DC-DC converter, wiring)
  • Does not guarantee a repair on physically destroyed or fire-damaged BMS boards
  • Does not cover lead-acid batteries — this is for lithium / 48V BMS electronics only

Is it the BMS electronics, or the cells?

A modern lithium or 48V battery is two things in one case: the cells that store the energy, and the BMS board that manages and reports them. When the board fails — a blown power supply, a communication fault, a stuck balancing circuit — the whole battery looks dead even though the cells are fine, and the usual dealer answer is an expensive complete-pack replacement. This service repairs and resets that board instead. But if your cells are genuinely worn out or dead, no board repair brings them back — you need a new battery. We evaluate first and tell you honestly which one you have, so you never pay for a repair that can't help.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your year, model, and a photo of the battery / BMS label so a technician can confirm we cover your exact unit and that your fault looks like electronics, not dead cells, before you ship. Then send the battery or BMS module to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1009 Oakwood Ln # 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We repair and reset on the bench, test that it charges and communicates, and ship it back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $29.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).

What to include in your box

  • The battery (with its integrated BMS) or the standalone BMS module
  • Year, make, and model (e.g. 2019 Porsche 911 with the lithium battery option)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • The battery / BMS part number and a clear label photo (we pre-check coverage)
  • What is wrong now: dead battery, won't charge, won't wake, hybrid fault message
  • Any fault codes or dashboard messages the car is showing
  • Whether the battery is the original or a replacement, and its rough age
  • Your name, return address, and phone number

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Which batteries and modules does this cover?
Two families right now: the Porsche lightweight LiFePO4 lithium auxiliary/starter battery fitted as an option on 2014-and-newer 911, 718, Panamera, and Cayenne; and the 48V mild-hybrid battery BMS (MVBM/IVBM) on recent Volvo models. This is an emerging niche, so send us your year, model, and a photo of the battery/BMS label and we'll confirm we cover your exact unit before you ship.
How do I know if it's the BMS electronics or the cells?
You often can't tell from the car — a failed board makes a perfectly healthy pack look dead. That's why we evaluate first: we test the board and the cells, and we tell you whether the fault is repairable electronics or genuinely worn-out cells. If it's the cells, no board repair will help and you need a new battery — and we won't charge you a repair fee for something we can't fix.
Is this a new battery?
No. This is a repair and reset of the BMS electronics inside your existing battery, not a new cell pack. When the board is the problem — which is common — repairing it restores the whole battery at a fraction of a full replacement. When the cells themselves are dead, only a new battery fixes that, and we'll tell you honestly if that's your situation.
My Porsche lithium battery won't charge — can you fix it?
Frequently, yes. On the lightweight lithium battery, a failed BMS board is a common reason the battery goes dead, won't accept a charge, or the car won't wake up — while the cells are still fine. We repair the board at component level and reset the BMS so the pack communicates and charges again. Send us the label photo and symptoms and we'll confirm before you ship.
Does this cover Volvo 48V mild-hybrid batteries?
Yes — the 48V mild-hybrid battery BMS (MVBM/IVBM) on recent Volvo models is one of the two families we handle. We do board-level electronics repair and a BMS reset so the module reports correctly and the pack charges. Note this is the 48V mild-hybrid battery, not a high-voltage traction pack from a full hybrid or plug-in — those we don't cover.
Do you cover EV or full-hybrid traction battery packs?
No. This service is for the low-voltage lithium and 48V mild-hybrid BMS units described above. High-voltage traction battery packs on full hybrids and EVs are a different animal — different chemistry, different voltages, and real high-voltage safety requirements — and are outside this service. If you're unsure which you have, send us the details and we'll tell you.
Do I need proof of ownership for this?
No — a BMS repair isn't security or immobilizer work, so there's no proof-of-ownership gate on this service. The only thing we ask you to do first is verify your exact unit: send a photo of the battery/BMS label and your symptoms so a technician can confirm we cover it and that the fault looks like electronics rather than dead cells before you ship.
How much is it and how does the mail-in work?
It is $250 flat. After a technician confirms we cover your unit from your label photo and symptoms, you ship the battery or BMS module to Auto Module Lab in Arlington, TX. We repair and reset on the bench, test that it charges and communicates, and ship it back with tracking — return speed your choice at checkout (Standard $29.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).
