Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • You replaced AFM lifters and want AFM / DOD disabled in the tune
  • You installed a mechanical AFM delete kit and need the ECM programmed to match
  • You installed a non-AFM camshaft or non-AFM build
  • You want to disable AFM preventively on a supported application
  • You have a newer Gen 5 5.3 / 6.2 and want DFM (Dynamic Fuel Management) disabled
  • Your tuner or mechanic told you DOD / DFM needs to be disabled
  • You have a GM 5.3L (or 6.0 / 6.2L) truck or SUV with AFM-related concerns

Won't fix:

  • Does not repair collapsed or failed AFM lifters
  • Does not repair camshaft damage, bent pushrods, or worn lobes
  • Does not fix oil pressure problems or internal mechanical engine noise
  • Does not replace mechanical AFM delete parts (cam, lifters, valley cover, gaskets, trays)
  • Does not guarantee repair of misfires caused by mechanical failure
  • Does not remove or modify emissions equipment
  • Does not support every ECM without verification (we confirm your file, OS, and controller first)
  • Does not include E90 / E93 / E99 / Global B unlock or upgrade services

Programming only — please read before ordering

This service disables AFM / DOD / DFM (Active Fuel Management, Displacement On Demand, or Dynamic Fuel Management) in the ECM calibration when supported; the AFM/DFM hardware stays physically installed unless you perform a separate mechanical delete (heads off, non-AFM cam and lifters, valley cover, trays, and gaskets). It is offered for repair, restoration, diagnostic, off-road, racing, or mechanically deleted applications where legally permitted. Customer is responsible for ensuring this service complies with local, state, and federal emissions laws. Software programming does not repair mechanical engine damage — failed lifters, worn cam, oil-pressure, or noise issues must be repaired separately.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN and ECM service / part number and we confirm support before you ship anything. Once verified, remove the ECM and ship it to 1168 W Pioneer Parkway, Arlington TX 76013. We program it on the bench, test communication, and ship it back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $14.95, UPS 2-Day $29.95, or UPS overnight $74.95).

What to include in your box

  • Year, make, model, and engine size (e.g. 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • ECM service number / part number off the case label
  • Reason for programming: preventive disable, after lifter repair, after mechanical AFM delete, or cam / non-AFM build
  • Whether the engine is stock or cammed (stock cam vs aftermarket cam)
  • Whether AFM hardware is still installed or a mechanical delete is already done
  • Whether you need AFM / DOD / DFM disable only, or a full cam / delete tune
  • A clear photo of the ECM service-number label, plus your name, return address, and phone

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Can AFM / DOD be disabled by programming only?
On many supported GM Gen 4 V8 ECMs, AFM / DOD can be disabled in the calibration. This keeps the system present but disabled so the engine stays in V8 mode. Support depends on the ECM, operating system, and calibration, which we verify before accepting the order.
Can this be done on the bench?
Yes. We program supported GM ECMs on the bench using a proper bench harness and a stable, regulated power supply, then test communication before the module ships back.
Do I need to remove the engine heads?
Not for a software disable only. Removing the heads is normally part of a mechanical AFM delete or a lifter replacement job, not the programming step.
Will this fix a bad lifter?
No. Programming cannot repair a collapsed lifter, worn camshaft, bent pushrod, oil pressure issue, or mechanical engine noise. Those must be repaired mechanically. Disabling AFM in software does not undo damage that has already happened.
Do I still need programming after a mechanical AFM delete?
Yes. If the AFM hardware is removed, the ECM should still be programmed so AFM / DOD is disabled in the calibration to match the build.
What ECMs are supported?
AutoModuleLab currently supports GM E38, E67, E92, and E92A ECMs after verification. E38 is the primary application (2007–2014 Gen 4 V8 trucks and SUVs — 5.3, 6.0, 6.2); E67, E92, and E92A are confirmed case-by-case from your VIN and ECM label photo. Support always depends on the year, model, engine, operating system, and calibration. We do not currently offer E90, E93, E99, or Global B unlock/upgrade services.
Can you disable DFM (Dynamic Fuel Management) on newer Gen 5 trucks?
On many supported Gen 5 applications (E92 / E92A), DFM can be disabled in the calibration the same way AFM / DOD is on Gen 4 — after we verify your specific ECM, operating system, and calibration. Some later locked GM ECMs require unlock or upgrade processes that AutoModuleLab does not currently offer; we will tell you up front if your ECM falls outside what we support.
Do you support E90 or E93 unlocks?
No. AutoModuleLab does not currently offer E90, E93, E99, or Global B unlock or upgrade services, and we do not coordinate HP Tuners send-in upgrades. We support AFM / DOD / DFM disable on E38, E67, E92, and E92A ECMs verified by VIN and ECM label photo.
What vehicles commonly use this service?
Chevrolet Tahoe, Silverado, Suburban, and Avalanche; GMC Sierra, Yukon, and Yukon XL; Cadillac Escalade; and other GM Gen 4 V8 vehicles with AFM / DOD — plus newer 2014+ Gen 5 5.3 / 6.2 trucks and SUVs that use AFM / DFM, supported after we verify the ECM.
Is this a mail-in service?
Yes. After we verify support, you ship the ECM to Auto Module Lab. We program it on the bench, test communication, and ship it back with tracking.
Is this an emissions delete?
No. This is AFM / DOD / DFM calibration programming offered for repair, restoration, diagnostic, off-road, racing, or mechanically deleted applications where legally permitted. It does not remove emissions equipment, and the customer is responsible for compliance with local, state, and federal law.
