Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Mercedes ME9.7 ECU failed, crank no-start
  • M272 / M273 ECU communication dropping / misfires from ECU
  • Need to install a used Mercedes ECU - immobilizer no-start
  • Clone donor ECU to my VIN, plug and play
  • MED17 ECU replacement no-start after a swap

Won't fix:

  • No-starts from sensors, wiring, fuel, or mechanical faults (diagnose first)
  • EIS/ESL/key faults outside the ECU
  • A donor that's the wrong part number / hardware family
  • Emissions / OBD-monitor defeat - this is a like-for-like clone only; we do not remove catalysts, EGR, or emissions equipment from a road car

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Why can't I just bolt in a used Mercedes ECU?
ME9.7 and MED17 ECUs store the car's VIN and FBS3 immobilizer data inside the module and are locked to the EIS and keys. A used ECU carries another car's data, so it won't authenticate. Cloning copies your original's data onto the donor.
What exactly gets copied during a clone?
The full operational dataset - VIN, FBS3 immobilizer data, injector coding, and learned adaptations. The donor comes back as a 1:1 replacement that installs plug-and-play.
Why do ME9.7 ECUs fail so often?
On many M272/M273 cars the ME9.7 is mounted on the hot intake manifold, so it cooks and vibrates, causing internal failures - intermittent comms loss, misfires traced to the ECU, or a crank/no-start.
Does the donor ECU need to match exactly?
It should be the same Bosch family and a compatible part number. Send clear photos of both labels and the VIN and we confirm the donor is a valid clone target before writing.
Will a clone hide a real mechanical no-start?
No. Cloning only solves an ECU/immobilizer problem. If the no-start is a sensor, wiring, fuel or mechanical fault, the cloned ECU starts on the bench but the car still won't run - diagnose the root cause first.
