Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • No communication with the ECM on a scan tool where power and grounds are confirmed good
  • A dead ECM — no response, no start, nothing on the data bus
  • Injector-driver faults on a bank, now an ECM fault on these trucks rather than a FICM fault
  • Crank-no-start where the ECM is not commanding fuel

  • Mechanically failed injectors, CP3 pump faults, or low rail pressure

A stored code is evidence, not a verdict. Every code below can also be set by wiring, connectors, grounds, power supply, or the component the module is trying to drive. U0100

Lost communication with the ECM/PCM.

Does not prove: Set by wiring, connector and power-supply faults just as readily as by a failed module. Confirm the ECM has power and ground and that the bus is intact before assuming the module is dead.

P0601

Internal control module memory checksum error.

Does not prove: Points inside the module, but it can also follow a failed or interrupted programming attempt. Worth telling us if the truck was recently flashed or had a battery event.

P0606

ECM/PCM processor fault.

Does not prove: One of the stronger indicators of an internal fault, but low or unstable supply voltage can produce it too. Check charging system and grounds first.

P062D

Fuel injector driver circuit performance, bank 1.

Does not prove: On these trucks the drivers are inside the ECM, so this points at the ECM rather than a FICM — but a shorted injector on that bank can still set it with a healthy driver.

P062E

Fuel injector driver circuit performance, bank 2.

Does not prove: Same qualification as P062D. Injector resistance and harness condition on that bank need ruling out before the module is condemned.

P0201-P0208

Injector circuit, cylinders 1 through 8.

Does not prove: Individual cylinder codes usually mean that injector or its wiring. It is a pattern across a bank that starts implicating the driver side inside the ECM.

    Intake and visual inspection

    Your module is logged against your order, photographed as received, and opened. We look for the things that decide whether a repair is even sensible: liquid ingress, corrosion tracking, previous repair attempts, physical damage to the connector or housing, and burnt or lifted components.

    Power-up and communication test

    The module is powered on a bench harness and we confirm whether it comes up and communicates at all. A module that will not respond and one that responds but misbehaves are two different faults, and this is the step that separates them.

    Fault localisation under load

    We test the sections that actually fail on these modules rather than guessing from the code you arrived with — supply rails, driver outputs, and the circuits feeding them, measured with the module doing work rather than sitting idle. Intermittent faults get thermal cycling, because a joint that reads fine cold is exactly the joint that opens hot.

  4. 4

    Component-level repair

    Failed components are replaced and weak or cracked joints reworked. We repair the board you sent — this is not a swap-and-return. If a fault traces to something beyond economical repair, work stops here and you hear about it before anything is charged.

    Data preservation and verification

    Where the repair touches memory or requires a programming step, your existing calibration and learned data are read first and restored afterwards, so the module goes back configured to your truck rather than blank.

    Bench verification and return

    The repaired module is retested on the bench, including the specific function that failed, and thermally cycled again before it is signed off. It ships back in protective packaging with tracking, at the return speed you chose at checkout.

A donor module carries someone else's, which is why used units so often need a programming session before the truck will run properly — an extra step, an extra cost, and an extra thing to go wrong.

A used module is the same age as yours

The realistic alternative to repairing a fifteen-year-old module is a fifteen-year-old module out of another truck, with an unknown service history and the same components approaching the same end of life. Repairing yours targets the part that actually failed instead of rolling the dice on someone else's.

The failure is usually smaller than the part

These modules do not generally fail as a whole. They fail at a driver, a supply section, or a set of joints — a repairable area on an otherwise sound board. Replacing the entire module to fix that is the most expensive way to solve a small problem.

Why 2006 is the year everyone gets wrong

The 2006 model year straddles the LLY-to-LBZ transition, and the two builds do not have the same architecture. An early-build 2006 is an LLY, which drives the injectors through a separate FICM. A later-build 2006 is an LBZ, where the drivers moved inside the ECM. That means two trucks that are both "2006 Duramax" can need two entirely different services for the same dead-miss symptom. Is my 2006 truck an LLY or an LBZ?
It depends on build date, not just model year — the changeover happened partway through 2006. It matters here because an LLY drives its injectors through a separate FICM while an LBZ has the drivers inside the ECM, so the same symptom points at two different modules. Send us your VIN before ordering and we will confirm which one you have.
My truck has no communication at all. Is that always the ECM?
No, and this is the single most common reason a healthy module gets mailed in. Loss of communication is set just as easily by a broken bus wire, a corroded connector, a bad ground, or the ECM simply not being powered. Confirm the module has battery voltage and a clean ground at its connector before you condemn it. If those check out and it still will not talk, then the module becomes the prime suspect.
Will my calibration and VIN survive the repair?
Yes. That is a core part of the process — where a repair touches memory or needs a programming step, we read your existing data first and restore it afterwards, so the module goes back to your truck configured exactly as it left. It is your module, so there is nothing for the truck to relearn about it.
Do I need to send the FICM too?
These trucks do not have one. From the LBZ onward the injector drivers are inside the ECM, which is why a driver fault on a 2006-2007 truck is an ECM repair. If you have an early-build 2006 LLY with a separate FICM, that is our LB7/LLY FICM service instead.
How is this different from your E35B service?
The E35B service covers the 2007.5-2010 LMM, which is a later generation of the same family with its own hardware and calibration differences. We keep them as separate services so that the coverage, the testing and the answers on each page are actually about your truck rather than a range that spans four engine generations.
What if the problem turns out to be an injector after all?
We test before we repair, and if the module tests good we tell you. You are not charged for a repair we cannot deliver. Better still, text us your codes and balance-rate data before you ship — if the evidence points at injectors or wiring we will say so and save you the round trip.
Do you do EGR or DPF deletes on the E35 while it is there?
No. We do not offer emissions deletes on any platform and we will not modify a module to disable emissions equipment. This service repairs a hardware failure so the truck runs correctly as built.
How long is the turnaround?
Typically 3-5 business days of bench time once the module arrives, plus transit each way. Choose UPS 2-Day or overnight for the return at checkout if the truck is down and you need it back quickly.
Can I send a used ECM out of another truck for you to repair?
We can repair it, but be clear about what you end up with: a repaired module that still carries the donor truck's VIN and calibration, which will then need programming to work properly in your truck. If you still have your original, repairing that one is almost always the cheaper and simpler path.
Is there a warranty?
Yes — our standard 6-month workmanship warranty on the repair we performed. It covers the repair, not unrelated faults elsewhere on the truck or a different section of the board failing later. We are always straight with you about which one you are looking at.
Do you work with shops and fleets?
Regularly. Ship with the shop as the return address, include the job number, and we will text updates to whatever number you nominate. Shop diagnostic notes usually make the bench work faster because they narrow down what to test first.
