Subaru BIU (Body Integrated Unit) All-Keys-Lost & Cloning — Mail-In Bench EEPROM Service

Lost every key to your Subaru, or the car cranks-no-start after a used-module swap? Mail in your BIU and we handle it at the EEPROM level on the bench — program a fresh key for all-keys-lost, add a key with a working one, or clone the BIU onto a donor.

What You Get

  • Your BIU handled at the EEPROM level — all-keys-lost reset, add-a-key, or cloned onto a donor, where supported
  • A fresh transponder key programmed to the BIU on an all-keys-lost job (ship your uncut blade / transponder)
  • Original BIU data copied onto the donor on a clone, so the ECM and combination meter are never touched
  • Factory immobilizer kept fully active — this is not an immo delete
  • Bench read + verify before anything is written
  • Bench communication test with a stable, regulated power supply before return
  • Module returned with tracking — return-shipping speed your choice at checkout

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • All keys lost on a 2012–2017 blade-key Subaru and the car cranks but will not start
  • You have one working key and want a second added at the module level
  • Installed a used BIU and the car cranks-no-start or the security light stays on
  • You want your original BIU's data cloned onto a donor so a replacement is plug-and-play
  • Failed OBD key registration that left the immobilizer locked out
  • Security / immobilizer light on after a body-module swap

Won't fix:

  • Does not cover keyless-access smart-key trims without VIN verification first — those are confirmed case-by-case
  • Does not cut a mechanical blade from the VIN alone — ship an uncut blade or a key we can copy
  • Does not clone a BIU whose EEPROM is internally dead or unreadable — there is no data to copy
  • Does not repair a failed combination meter, ECM, or other module in the matched set
  • Does not fix a no-start caused by fuel, spark, battery, starter, or wiring faults
  • Does not repair a worn ignition lock cylinder or steering-column damage
  • Does not bypass proof of ownership

All keys lost on a Subaru? It's a bench job, not an OBD job

Subaru tied the key, BIU, combination meter, and ECM together into one matched security set, and there is no dealer or scan-tool procedure that adds a key when every key is gone — the registration has to come out of the BIU's EEPROM on the bench. That is exactly what makes an all-keys-lost Subaru a mail-in job rather than a driveway job: pull the BIU, ship it, and we reset its key registers and program a fresh transponder so the car starts, with the factory immobilizer left fully intact. If you sourced a used BIU instead, we clone your original's data onto it so the ECM and meter never know it changed. Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale) is required before any immobilizer or key work, and the customer is responsible for compliance with local, state, and federal law.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN and a photo of the BIU part-number label (and proof of ownership) — a technician confirms your exact BIU is a bench-readable job and tells you which path fits (all-keys-lost, add-a-key, or clone) before you ship. Once verified, remove the BIU and ship it — with your uncut blade / transponder for an all-keys-lost job, or the donor unit for a clone — to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1009 Oakwood Ln # 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We handle it on the bench, test communication, and ship everything back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $29.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).

What to include in your box

  • Year, make, model, and engine (e.g. 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5L)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale)
  • Whether this is all-keys-lost, add-a-key, or a BIU clone
  • A clear photo of the BIU part-number label
  • Your name, return address, and phone number

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Why can't a locksmith just add a key through the OBD port?
On these 2012–2017 blade-key Subarus, only a working key can authorize adding another through the port. When every key is gone, there is no OBD procedure — the registration lives in the BIU's EEPROM and has to be reset on the bench. That is why an all-keys-lost Subaru is a mail-in module job, not a driveway job.
Which Subarus does this cover?
Roughly 2012–2017 blade-key (G-chip) models: Impreza, WRX, STI, Legacy, Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek/XV, plus the shared-platform BRZ, Toyota 86/GT86, and Scion FR-S. Keyless-access smart-key trims and newer years are confirmed case-by-case — send your VIN and a photo of the BIU label and we tell you before you ship.
What's the difference between all-keys-lost, add-a-key, and cloning?
All-keys-lost resets the BIU's key registers so a fresh key we program becomes valid. Add-a-key uses one working key you still have to authorize a second. Cloning copies your original BIU's data onto a donor unit so a replacement drops in without touching the ECM or combination meter. All three are $250 flat — tell us which you need.
Do you supply the key, or do I send one?
For an all-keys-lost job, ship an uncut blade or transponder in the box — we program it to the BIU but cannot cut a mechanical blade from the VIN alone. For add-a-key, send your working key so we can authorize the new one. A technician confirms the correct transponder type for your exact model before you ship.
I bought a used BIU — will it just work?
No. A used BIU still carries the donor car's key and security data, so your car cranks but won't start. Cloning copies your original BIU's data onto that used unit so the ECM and meter accept it — the standard fix for a used-module swap. If your original BIU is too damaged to read, there's no data to clone, and we tell you before doing further work.
Does the immobilizer stay active?
Yes. This is not an immo delete — the factory immobilizer stays fully intact. We reset or clone the BIU at the EEPROM level so your keys are valid again, keeping the car's theft protection working exactly as designed. Proof of ownership is required before any immobilizer or key work begins.
Do I need proof of ownership?
Yes. Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale) is required for any key or immobilizer work before we begin. This keeps the service legitimate for your own vehicle, a car you purchased, or a restoration project.
How much is it and how does the mail-in work?
It is $250 flat. After a technician verifies your BIU by VIN and label photo, you ship it (with a key blade or the donor unit as needed) to Auto Module Lab. We handle it on the bench, test communication, and ship everything back with tracking — return speed your choice at checkout (Standard $29.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).
