Compatibility

Confirm your part matches one of the variants below before ordering. Not sure? Text us a photo and we'll verify.

Jeep

  • Grand Cherokee WJ (1999-2004)
  • Liberty KJ (2002-2007)
  • Wrangler TJ / LJ (2003-2006, when equipped — some were built without it)
  • Cherokee XJ (1998-2001, when equipped)

Dodge / Plymouth

  • Intrepid (1998-2004)
  • Neon and Neon SRT-4 (2000-2005)
  • Stratus sedan (2001-2006 — not the Mitsubishi-built coupe)
  • Caravan / Grand Caravan, Plymouth Voyager (2001-2007)
  • Dakota (2001-2004)
  • Durango (2001-2003)
  • Ram 1500 / 2500 / 3500 (2002-2005, when equipped with Sentry Key)

Chrysler

  • Concorde, LHS and 300M (1998-2004)
  • Sebring sedan and convertible (2001-2006 — not the Mitsubishi-built coupe)
  • PT Cruiser (2001-2010)
  • Town & Country and Voyager (2001-2007)
  • Pacifica (2004-2008)

Later trucks — the module still sits on the column, text a photo first

  • Dakota (2005-2007), Durango (2004-2007), Chrysler Aspen (2007)

How to tell you have SKIM

  • A plastic ring around the ignition lock cylinder under the column shroud
  • An amber key-shaped light in the cluster that glows about three seconds at key-on
  • A grey rubber cap on the head of the original key (Sentry Key)
  • Security light flashing while the engine dies two seconds after starting

What we work from

  • The SKIM module with its antenna ring
  • Any existing keys, working or not (they stay programmed)
  • Your VIN, year and model on the order

What the key does

  • Starts the engine (the transponder side of the key)
  • Blade arrives uncut — cut locally from an existing key or lock
  • No remote lock/unlock buttons (valet-style key)

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • All keys lost on a 1998-2007 Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep with the SKIM ring around the ignition
  • Dealer says the vehicle must be towed in, or cannot get a PIN for a vehicle this old
  • Bought a Liberty, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Ram, Dakota, PT Cruiser, Neon or Caravan with one key or none
  • Have a cut key that turns the locks but the security light kills the engine after two seconds
  • Replaced the SKIM with a used one and need a key paired to it
  • Want a plain spare transponder key for the drawer without a dealer visit

Won't fix:

  • Need the blade cut as well? That is the $150 cut + programmed key — ship your door lock cylinder with the SKIM
  • Ram 2006-2008 and every 2007+ vehicle with the fob built into the key (WCM / WIN / FOBIK) — different system, text us first
  • Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger / Magnum (2005+), Grand Cherokee WK and Commander (2005+) — SKREEM, not SKIM
  • Sebring and Stratus coupes — Mitsubishi-built with a Mitsubishi immobilizer
  • Chrysler Crossfire — its SKREEM sits behind the cluster; it has its own page
  • Mechanically seized ignition or door lock cylinders — the module and the lock have to be serviceable
  • Non-immobilizer no-start causes (fuel, crank, wiring) — the security light has to be the story

Why the SKIM ships and the vehicle stays home

A dealer makes a Sentry Key by connecting to the vehicle and entering the four-digit PIN. On the 1998-2004 cars that PIN is stored only in the SKIM — it is never sent on the data bus, so no tool can pull it through the OBD port, and for a twenty-year-old Jeep or Neon the dealer may not be able to look it up either. The module itself is a small unit that comes off the column in twenty minutes. On the bench we read it directly, write the new transponder into it and confirm the pairing on our rig. The vehicle never moves, and the SKIM comes back holding a key that already works.

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

What exactly is the SKIM I need to ship?
The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module: a small unit mounted on the steering column whose molded plastic ring circles the ignition lock cylinder. Pull the upper and lower column shrouds, unplug its connector, and it comes off as one piece — the ring is part of it. The ignition lock itself stays in the vehicle.
Why can't you just use my VIN?
Because the four-digit PIN and the key list are stored in the SKIM itself. On the 1998-2004 vehicles the PIN is never sent on the data bus, so no scan tool can read it through the OBD port — the dealer needs the vehicle and a code lookup that often no longer exists for a car this old. Reading the module directly on the bench is the only way around that, and it is what this service does.
Do I lose my existing keys?
No. We add the new transponder to the SKIM; keys that work today keep working. If you want a lost key removed so it can never start the vehicle, say so on the order note and we will drop it.
Is the blade cut?
Not on this option — the key ships with an uncut blade so any locksmith or hardware store can cut it from an existing key, or from your lock. If you have no cut key at all, order the $150 cut + programmed key and put your driver's door lock cylinder in the box; we decode it and cut the blade to match.
My 2006 Ram / 2007 Wrangler / 300 — same thing?
No. From 2006 (Ram) and 2005-2007 (300, Charger, Magnum, WK Grand Cherokee, Commander) Chrysler moved to the SKREEM / WCM with the remote built into the key, and from 2008 to the WIN with FOBIK keys — different systems that need the vehicle. This page is the column-mounted SKIM only. Text us the year and model with a photo of the ring before ordering if you are unsure.
