GM E-Series ECM/PCM Cloning — Mail-In Bench Clone to a Donor (VIN, Calibration & Anti-Theft Carried Over)

Dead GM engine computer, or a used-ECM swap that cranks but won't start with a "theft" light? Mail in your original plus a matching donor and we clone your ECM/PCM onto it on the bench — VIN, calibration, and the anti-theft/VATS relationship carried over — so the replacement is plug-and-play with no dealer SPS trip.

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Original ECM/PCM is dead or intermittent and you have a matching used donor to clone onto
  • No-comms — the module won't respond to a scan tool and the engine won't start
  • Used-ECM swap cranks but won't start because the box still belongs to the donor car
  • "Theft" / security light after installing a used ECM from another vehicle
  • You want to avoid a dealer SPS programming appointment for a replacement module
  • Replacement module needs your VIN, tune, and anti-theft data to run your car

Won't fix:

  • Does not clone Global B (2019+) GM controllers — no bench clone path exists
  • Does not clone a completely dead or unreadable original (there is nothing to copy)
  • Does not work when the donor doesn't match the controller family / part number
  • Does not repair internal ECM hardware damage (water, blown driver, cracked board)
  • Does not fix a no-start caused by fuel, spark, wiring, ground, or sensor faults
  • Does not add or program keys, and does not delete or bypass the immobilizer
  • Does not tune, add power, or modify emissions equipment in any way

Why a used ECM cranks but won't start — and how the clone fixes it

A used GM ECM you buy still carries the donor vehicle's VIN and anti-theft relationship, so when you install it the engine cranks but won't start and the "theft" light comes on — the module simply doesn't belong to your car. The dealer answer is an SPS programming appointment. Cloning does the opposite: we copy YOUR original module's identity — VIN, calibration, and the VATS/Passlock/immobilizer data — onto the matching donor on the bench, so the donor becomes a true drop-in for your vehicle. Reinstall it and it runs. The donor must match the controller family and part number, and your original must be readable for us to copy it. This is not a tune, not an unlock, and not an immobilizer delete.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN and both module service / part numbers (your original and the donor) and we confirm the donor matches your controller family and that your original is bench-readable before you ship anything — Global B (2019+) controllers are excluded, and a completely dead original cannot be cloned. Once verified, remove the module and ship it to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1009 Oakwood Ln # 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We clone your data onto the donor on the bench, test communication, and ship it back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95).

What to include in your box

  • Your ORIGINAL ECM/PCM (the one that runs your car / holds your VIN and tune)
  • The matching DONOR ECM/PCM (same controller family and part number)
  • Year, make, model, and engine size (e.g. 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • The ECM/PCM service number / part number off BOTH case labels
  • What is wrong now: dead module, no-comms, cranks-no-start, or a theft light after a swap
  • Whether any other tuning has already been applied to the original ECM
  • A clear photo of both module service-number labels, plus your name, return address, and phone

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Why does my used GM ECM crank but not start?
Because the used module still carries the donor vehicle's VIN and anti-theft data — it doesn't belong to your car, so the security system blocks the start and you get a "theft" light. Cloning your original module's identity onto that unit makes it belong to your vehicle, and the no-start clears. It has to be a match for the controller family and part number, and your original has to be readable.
What does the clone actually carry over?
Your VIN, the full engine calibration / operating file, and the anti-theft / VATS / Passlock / immobilizer relationship. That combination is what makes the donor a true plug-and-play replacement for your vehicle — reinstall it and it runs, with no dealer SPS programming appointment.
Which GM controllers can you clone?
GM E-series controllers from the Global A era, roughly 2005–2018. E38 covers the Gen IV LS 5.3/6.0 trucks and SUVs (Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Avalanche, Escalade), Camaro SS, Pontiac G8 and the Chevrolet SS / Caprice PPV. E67 covers supercharged LSA/LS9 cars (CTS-V, Camaro ZL1, Corvette ZR1) and the 3.6L direct-injection V6 in CTS, SRX, Traverse, Acadia, Enclave and Equinox. E39/E39A are the FWD LS4 5.3 cars (Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS, Grand Prix GXP). E37/E37A cover the 3.5, 3.9 and 4.3 applications (Impala, Malibu, G6, Uplander, Express / Savana). E78 covers 2.4L, 1.4T and 2.0T Ecotec (Equinox, Terrain, Malibu, Regal, LaCrosse, Verano, Cruze, Trax, Encore). E80/E82/E83/E84 are the Ecotec GDI car family (Aveo, Cruze, Sonic). E92 is the Gen V LT 5.3/6.2 controller in 2014-2018 trucks and SUVs, the Corvette C7 and the Camaro SS. We confirm your exact controller by VIN and module label before accepting the order.
Can you clone a 2019 or newer GM (Global B)?
No. Global B controllers (roughly 2019 and newer) are not bench-cloneable and are excluded from this service. We verify your controller by VIN first — if yours is Global B, we tell you up front before you ship anything rather than after you pay.
Do I have to send a donor module too?
Yes. Cloning copies your original module's data onto a second physical unit, so you send both: your original (which holds your VIN, tune, and anti-theft data) and a matching donor of the same controller family and part number. If your original is completely dead and unreadable, there is nothing to copy — cloning isn't possible in that case.
How is this different from your supply-a-part programmed ECM or Global A unlock?
Our supply-a-part service sources the module for you and programs a replacement; this clone service copies YOUR existing module's identity onto a donor you provide. The Global A unlock service opens a controller for tuning — cloning is not a tune and does not add power. Tell us your situation and we'll point you to the right one.
Will this add power or delete the immobilizer?
No. This is an identity clone only — it carries your VIN, calibration, and anti-theft relationship onto a matching donor so it's plug-and-play. It does not tune the engine, add power, delete or bypass the immobilizer, or modify emissions equipment. It also does not program keys.
How much is it, how fast, and what's the shipping?
It is $250 flat and a fast turnaround once your verified modules arrive. You choose your return-shipping speed at checkout — Standard $24.95, UPS 2-Day $54.95, or UPS overnight $94.95. This is a mail-in bench service: after we verify by VIN and module label, you ship both modules to us, we clone on the bench, test communication, and ship them back with tracking.
