Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Cranks but won't start with the security light on after a used/swapped ECM was installed
  • Starts and stalls after 1-2 seconds (immobilizer authorization rejected)
  • All keys lost on a Pass-Key III+ car where dealer relearn is not an option
  • BCM / immobilizer handshake failure immobilizing the engine
  • LFX / LLT / LS engine swap into a chassis with no Pass-Key III+ BCM (standalone or race builds)
  • Failed dealer / tool immobilizer relearn left the ECM locked

Won't fix:

  • No-crank conditions (starter, battery, neutral safety — unrelated to the ECM)
  • BCM-side functions: the BCM remains part of the security architecture and is not modified
  • Mechanical fuel / spark / compression faults
  • 1986-2005 resistor-key VATS (different service) or Passlock cluster-based systems
  • Global B (2019+) controllers

Text a photo of your ECM label first — we confirm before you pay

Because this depends on the exact controller and operating system, we confirm every job before anything ships: text us a clear photo of the ECM case label, your VIN, and what the car currently does. If the label shows a supported controller and the calibration exposes the function, we tell you to order; if not, you've lost nothing. A used ECM that cranks-no-start may also be a candidate for cloning your original instead — we'll say which fits.

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Is this the same as your $250 GM VATS Delete?
No. That service covers the 1986-2005 resistor-pellet VATS system. This one covers the newer Pass-Key III+ transponder immobilizer on Global A ECMs (2006-2015). GM's tools still call the ECM-side check "VATS" on these controllers, which is why both names appear here — but the work, the controllers, and the price are different.
Will the security light and every anti-theft function disappear?
The ENGINE will no longer depend on the immobilizer authorization — that is what makes it start. The BCM remains part of the vehicle's security architecture and is not modified, so we don't promise every security indicator or function goes away. If the security light matters to you, tell us the exact symptom when you text the label.
Why do you need the ECM label before I order?
Support depends on the controller AND the operating system in it. E39/E39A applications are well documented; other Global A controllers vary by calibration. Confirming from the label + VIN first means you never pay for a job we can't deliver.
Do I need to send keys or the BCM?
No — ship the ECM only. After the delete the engine does not check key authorization, so any key that mechanically works the ignition will start it. Existing keys keep working.
Does this affect emissions or readiness monitors?
No. The anti-theft authorization is independent of the emissions strategy; readiness monitors, fuel trims, and DTC behavior are unchanged.
Can it be reversed?
Yes — we archive the original ECM data for 90 days; restore within that window is $75.
Do you need proof of ownership?
Yes. Any anti-theft modification requires proof you own the vehicle or are authorized by the owner (registration or title photo). We decline jobs without it.
