Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • Dead or no-communication PCM on a 1996–2004 Ford and a replacement quote you don't like
  • Used PCM installed and the truck cranks but won't start (theft light flashing — PATS mismatch)
  • Water-, fire-, or corrosion-damaged PCM that still responds — clone it out before it dies
  • Junkyard PCM that needs your calibration and VIN put on it
  • No-start PCM replacement where you want the module ready before it goes in
  • You want your original tune, VIN, and PATS data carried onto healthy used hardware

Won't fix:

  • Does not include the donor PCM — you source a hardware-compatible used unit (we verify the numbers first)
  • Does not guarantee a plug-and-play clone on every application — some vehicles require an additional PATS parameter reset or key programming after installation
  • Does not repair a PCM that is internally dead — a dead original becomes a replacement-programming job
  • Does not fix no-starts caused by fuel pumps, ignition, sensors, wiring, or grounds
  • Does not remove PATS — that is our separate Ford PATS delete service
  • Does not cover 2005+ Fords (different PCM architecture) — contact us to verify yours
  • Does not bypass proof of ownership

Coverage honesty — please read before ordering

EEC-V appeared across Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury for nearly a decade, but connector style, processor, communication protocol, and security storage can differ even within the same model year — the 104-pin connector is a useful identification clue, but it does not guarantee every PCM can be cloned with the same procedure. That is why this service is advertised as cloning and programming WHERE SUPPORTED, never as a guaranteed exact clone for every 1996–2004 Ford. Coverage depends on the PCM hardware number, service number, connector type, and condition of the original module; original and replacement PCM must normally be hardware-compatible; and some vehicles may require an additional PATS parameter reset or key programming after installation. A technician maps your exact job — true clone, calibration clone, or replacement programming — from your VIN and PCM label photos before you ship anything, so you know the outcome before you pay. Proof of ownership is required for any PATS-related work.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

Verify first: text or email us your VIN plus clear photos of your original PCM's service-number label (and the donor's, if you already have one) — a technician confirms hardware compatibility and tells you whether your job is a true clone, calibration clone, or replacement programming before you ship. Then send the original and the donor to PO Box 120241, Arlington TX 76012 if you ship USPS — or 1168 W Pioneer Parkway, Arlington TX 76013 if you ship UPS or FedEx (UPS and FedEx cannot deliver to a PO Box). We transfer the data on the bench, test communication, and ship both back via the return option you pick at checkout (Standard $14.95, UPS 2-Day $29.95, or UPS overnight $74.95).

What to include in your box

  • Your original PCM (even if damaged — as long as it powers up we can usually read it) AND the donor PCM
  • Year, make, model, engine, and transmission (e.g. 2001 F-150 5.4L auto)
  • VIN of the vehicle
  • PCM service number and hardware (catch) code off BOTH case labels — we pre-verify the match
  • What is wrong now: dead PCM, cranks-no-start after swap, theft light flashing, water damage, etc.
  • Whether the vehicle has PATS (theft light on the dash) and how many working keys you have
  • Proof of ownership (title, registration, or bill of sale)
  • Your name, return address, and phone number

Frequently Asked

Still have a question? Text us — replies in minutes.

Which Fords does this service cover?
The advertised range follows the well-documented EEC-V support map: 1997–2004 F-150, 1997–2004 Ranger, 1997–2000 Explorer 4.0L (5.0L 1998–1999), 2001–2004 Expedition, 1996–2004 Mustang V6 and GT (Cobra 1996–1998 and 2003–2004, Cobra R 2000, Mach 1 2003–2004), 1996–2004 Crown Victoria, 1996 Bronco, 1997 Aerostar, and 1996–1997 Thunderbird. Mercury Grand Marquis and Mountaineer, Lincoln Town Car and Navigator, E-Series vans, the 1999–2003 7.3L Power Stroke, and some Taurus/Sable/Windstar applications are handled case-by-case after we verify your specific PCM.
What is an EEC-V PCM and how do I know I have one?
EEC-V is Ford's fifth-generation electronic engine control architecture, used across most of the lineup from roughly 1996 to 2004. The quickest visual clue is the 104-pin main connector on the PCM. But the connector alone doesn't decide cloning support — the service number and hardware (catch) code on the case label do, which is why we verify those before you ship.
Will this be a true plug-and-play clone?
On many applications, yes — calibration, VIN, and PATS security data all transfer, and the donor installs like your original never left. But not on every EEC-V: connector style, processor, and security storage differ across the family, so some jobs are a calibration clone (PATS still needs an initialization at the car) and some are replacement programming. We map which one yours is from the VIN and PCM label before you pay — we never promise a guaranteed exact clone for every 1996–2004 Ford.
What happens with PATS — will my keys still work?
Where the platform supports a full PATS data transfer, your existing keys keep working with no extra steps. Where it doesn't, the donor needs a PATS parameter reset or key programming after installation — an on-car procedure a locksmith or Ford dealer can do, and on many models there's a self-initialization procedure with two working keys. We tell you which case applies before you ship. If you'd rather remove PATS entirely on an off-road or race build, that's our separate Ford PATS delete service.
How do I pick a compatible donor PCM?
Match the service number and hardware (catch) code on your original's label as closely as possible — same catch code is the gold standard. Original and replacement PCM must normally be hardware-compatible; a same-year same-engine truck is not automatically a match. Send us your label photo and the donor listing before you buy and we confirm it, free.
My original PCM is completely dead — can you still program a donor?
Yes — that becomes replacement programming: we bench-flash the donor with the correct factory calibration for your VIN and engine/transmission combination, and any PATS initialization is finished at the vehicle. You lose nothing except the original's stored adaptations, which relearn on their own.
Do you cover the 7.3L Power Stroke diesel?
The 1999–2003 7.3L Power Stroke PCM is on our case-by-case list — many of those units read and write cleanly on the bench, but we confirm your specific service number first. Send the VIN and label photo and we'll give you a straight yes or no before you ship.
My Ford is a 2005 or newer — does this apply?
No — 2005+ Fords moved to newer PCM architectures with different security. This service is for the ~1996–2004 EEC-V era. Contact us with your VIN anyway and we'll point you at the right option for your module.
How much is it and how fast?
It is $250 flat — cloning and programming where supported — and a fast turnaround once your verified modules arrive. You choose your return-shipping speed at checkout: Standard $14.95, UPS 2-Day $29.95, or UPS overnight $74.95. Inbound shipping to the lab is customer-paid with your choice of carrier.
