2010–2017 Chevy Equinox / GMC Terrain: what we see on the bench

From our bench

One Equinox is in our queue right now: a 2012 Equinox 2LT with the 2.4L, ordered October 3, 2026. The module arrived October 7 and is running a little past our usual week, which we told the owner by text on October 16. It is still in progress, so there is no result to report yet.

How common it is

ECU Testing, a UK module-rebuild specialist, calls ABS pump-and-module failure on the Chevy Equinox very common. GM has issued bulletins on these models too, PIT5400 in 2015 and PIT5427B in 2018, for ABS and traction warnings that can come from a corroded X411 connector rather than the module. ECU Testing: Chevrolet Equinox ABS rebuild

The Equinox and Terrain use the same GM service kits: 25926937 for 2010, 20837392 for 2011 and 22754644 for 2012–2017, across the 2.4L, 3.0L and 3.6L. The label on your module often shows a hardware number instead (ECU Testing lists 22755615 on 2010–2012 units and 22804954 on 2012–2017 units, for example), so read your own label before ordering anything.

The 2010–2017 Chevy Equinox / GMC Terrain ABS codes, and what they usually mean

Seeing one of these on your scan tool? Here's what it usually points to on this vehicle.

C0110

Pump motor circuit malfunction

The pump-motor driver inside the module, or the pump motor itself

C0550

Electronic control unit performance

A fault inside the module itself

U0121

Lost communication with the ABS module

The module has gone quiet on the network, or its wiring has; GM's X411 bulletin lists this code, so check that connector first

C0035–C0050 (one wheel)

Wheel-speed sensor circuit at that corner

A sensor, tone ring or harness at that wheel, not the module; the two rear codes are also on GM's X411 list

C0186, C0196, C0710

Lateral-acceleration, yaw-rate and steering-position signals

Those sensors and their wiring; all three are also on GM's X411 list

C0800

Module power circuit

Battery voltage, fuses or a ground; it is on GM's X411 list too, so not a module verdict on its own

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • ABS and traction-control lights on at the same time
  • A Service StabiliTrak, Service ABS or Service Traction Control message on the dash
  • StabiliTrak and traction control switched off
  • Code C0110 or C0550 stored in the ABS module
  • Other modules report lost communication with the ABS module (U0121)

Won't fix:

  • Wheel speed sensor failures (sensor replacement is on-car work)
  • Hydraulic pump or valve body mechanical failure (we repair electronics, not pump motors)
  • Brake line / fluid issues

Before you order

  • You diagnose, we service the module.

We don't have your car and we don't diagnose it. Order once you or your mechanic have confirmed this module is the cause. If the work is completed and the car still has the same symptom because of another fault, the work is still done — a bench re-test under warranty is free.

  • A clone copies what is in your module.

We transfer the data as we read it. If another shop or tool already worked on the module — an unfinished clone, a tune, a delete — that data can come across too. Tell us before you ship.

  • What "plug-and-play" means.

No dealer programming should be needed when your original data is intact, the donor matches your module (same type, hardware and software family) and the rest of the car works. It isn't a promise that the car will start or run.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

What to include in your box

  • Ship the electronic brake control module, not the hydraulic valve block, unless we ask for the whole unit. GM sells the module as its own kit, separate from the valve block; if you're not sure which part comes off, text us a photo of the module and its label first.
  • Put your VIN and the part number from the module label in the box.
  • Unplug the module only with the ignition off, and don't pry it off the valve block.
  • If only the module comes off and the brake lines stay connected, nothing needs bleeding. If the whole ABS unit comes out, cap the lines and bleed the brakes after it goes back in, with a scan-tool automated bleed if air may have reached the hydraulic unit.
  • We email you a prepaid label to send it in. Pick standard, 2-day or overnight return at checkout.

2010–2017 Chevy Equinox / GMC Terrain FAQ

Vehicle-specific answers.

Why are the ABS, traction and StabiliTrak warnings all on at once on my Equinox or Terrain?
All three run off one controller, the electronic brake control module, so when it fails inside they switch off together, often with code C0110, C0550 or U0121. GM also says the same warnings can come from a corroded X411 connector under the rear of the vehicle (bulletin PIT5427B), and a bad wheel-speed sensor can light them too, so read the ABS codes before buying anything.
How much does an Equinox or Terrain ABS module repair cost?
$499 flat to repair your own module, plus return shipping from $29.95. If testing shows the processor or board is beyond repair, a replacement board with data transfer and programming is $1,050 in total, with what you paid credited, and we only order it after you approve. For comparison, RepairPal estimates $1,280 to $1,342 for a dealer replacement on a 2012–2017 Equinox or Terrain.
Will the module need programming after the repair?
In most cases, no. We repair the module that came out of your vehicle, so it keeps its VIN and calibration and goes back in plug-and-play. A new or used replacement is different: it has to go through GM's Electronic Brake Control Module Programming and Setup procedure before it will run the system properly.
Is there a recall on the Equinox or Terrain ABS module?
NHTSA lists no ABS module recall for the 2010–2017 Equinox or Terrain, so the repair is on the owner. GM published service bulletins instead, PIT5400 in 2015 and PIT5427B in 2018, that send technicians to the X411 connector when ABS and traction warnings show up with communication codes. Check your own VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup to be sure.
How long does the repair take?
About a week on the bench (2–3 business days with rush repair) at our Arlington TX workshop, plus shipping each way. Round-trip from anywhere in the US: typically about two weeks. If your module needs the replacement board, we tell you the timing when we quote it.
What exactly do I ship?
The electronic brake control module, with your VIN and the part number from its label. GM sells it as its own kit, separate from the hydraulic valve block, so don't send the valve block unless we ask for it; if you're not sure which part comes off, text us a photo first. We email a prepaid label, so sending it to us costs nothing.
