2013–2018 Ram 1500: what we see on the bench

From our bench

Since June 2026 we have had three Ram 1500 ABS modules on the bench, all 2014–2015 trucks with the 5.7L, and all three needed the replacement board after testing. On these trucks, plan for that outcome as well as the $499 repair.

How common it is

In NHTSA's public complaint data, 185 of the 1,549 complaints filed about the 2016 Ram 1500 describe an ABS module failure (our count), most of them filed in 2024–2026, and about 3 in 10 of those also mention cruise control quitting. NHTSA: 2016 Ram 1500 complaints and recalls

Mopar's service modules differ by year: 68228991AE covers 2014–2015 trucks and 68295368AD covers 2016–2022. Read the label on your own module before ordering anything.

The 2013–2018 Ram 1500 ABS codes, and what they usually mean

Seeing one of these on your scan tool? Here's what it usually points to on this vehicle.

C2116

ABS pump-motor supply voltage low

The pump-motor driver or supply circuit inside the controller

U0121

Lost communication with the ABS module

The module has stopped responding on the bus; check its power and ground first

C2200

ABS control module internal failure

A failed driver stage, processor or memory inside the controller

C2100

Controller supply voltage out of range

Battery, charging or a ground; not a module verdict on its own

C1xxx (one wheel)

Wheel-speed sensor circuit at that corner

A sensor, tone ring, hub or harness at that wheel, not the module

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • ABS, ESP/BAS and traction-control lights on at the same time
  • Stability control and traction control switched off
  • Cruise control stops working along with the lights
  • Other modules report lost communication with the ABS module (U0121)
  • The code comes straight back after it is cleared

Won't fix:

  • Wheel speed sensor failures (sensor replacement is on-car work)
  • Hydraulic pump or valve body mechanical failure (we repair electronics, not pump motors)
  • Brake line / fluid issues

Before you order

  • You diagnose, we service the module.

We don't have your car and we don't diagnose it. Order once you or your mechanic have confirmed this module is the cause. If the work is completed and the car still has the same symptom because of another fault, the work is still done — a bench re-test under warranty is free.

  • A clone copies what is in your module.

We transfer the data as we read it. If another shop or tool already worked on the module — an unfinished clone, a tune, a delete — that data can come across too. Tell us before you ship.

  • What "plug-and-play" means.

No dealer programming should be needed when your original data is intact, the donor matches your module (same type, hardware and software family) and the rest of the car works. It isn't a promise that the car will start or run.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

What to include in your box

  • Ship the electronic controller, not the hydraulic block, unless we ask for the whole unit. If you're not sure which part comes off, text us a photo of the module and its label first.
  • Put your VIN and the part number from the module label in the box.
  • Taking only the electronic controller off the hydraulic block leaves the brake lines closed, so no bleed is needed; if the whole unit comes out, cap the lines and bleed the brakes after it goes back in.
  • After reinstall, connect a scan tool, clear the stored codes and run the ABS Verification Test. The repaired module keeps its coding, so there is no programming, but FCA calls for that test and code C2200 stays latched until it runs.
  • We email you a prepaid label to send it in. Pick standard, 2-day or overnight return at checkout.

2013–2018 Ram 1500 FAQ

Vehicle-specific answers.

Why are the ABS, traction and ESP/BAS lights all on at once on my Ram 1500?
All three systems run off one controller, the ABS module in the engine bay, so when it fails inside they all switch off together. On a 2013–2018 Ram 1500 that usually shows up as code C2116, C2200 or U0121. A bad wheel-speed sensor can light the same lamps, but it normally sets a code that names one wheel, so read the ABS codes before buying anything.
How much does a Ram 1500 ABS module repair cost?
$499 flat to repair your own module, plus return shipping from $29.95. If testing shows the processor or board is beyond repair, a replacement board with data transfer and programming is $1,050 in total, with what you paid credited, and we only order it after you approve. For comparison, RepairPal estimates $1,690 to $1,741 for a dealer replacement on a 2015 or 2016 Ram 1500.
Will the module need programming after the repair?
No programming, but plan on a scan-tool step. We repair the module that came out of your truck, so it keeps its own coding and goes back in without programming. FCA still calls for a scan tool to clear the stored codes and run the ABS Verification Test after it is reinstalled, because code C2200 stays latched until then. A new or used replacement module is different: it has to be programmed to your VIN before the lights go out.
Is there a recall on the Ram 1500 ABS module?
NHTSA lists no ABS recall for 2014–2018 Ram 1500 trucks. Recall 24V-653, an ABS software update, covers only 2019 and 2021–2024 Ram 1500s, and the 2013 has a separate stability-control recall (13V-287). Check your own VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup to be sure.
How long does the repair take?
About a week on the bench (2–3 business days with rush repair) at our Arlington TX workshop, plus shipping each way. Round-trip from anywhere in the US: typically about two weeks. If your module needs the replacement board, we tell you the timing when we quote it.
What exactly do I ship?
The electronic controller from the ABS unit, with your VIN and the part number from its label. Don't send the hydraulic block unless we ask for it; if you're not sure which part comes off, text us a photo first. We email a prepaid label, so sending it to us costs nothing.
