Eighth-generation (2008–2012) and ninth-generation (2013–2017) Accord; Honda calls the unit the VSA modulator and changes its number by year, engine, transmission and body

2008–2017 Honda Accord: what we see on the bench

From our bench

None of our ABS orders so far has been a Honda (our order records start in June 2026), so this page is built from Honda's parts listings, owners' reports to NHTSA and the published sources below rather than from our own bench results. Text us your codes and a photo of your unit's label before you order.

How common it is

This is a well-documented failure on the 2013 Accord: 146 of the 1,425 complaints about the 2013 mention ABS or VSA, and 102 of those were filed from 2023 to 2026, against 29 of the 1,520 about the 2008 (our count). NHTSA complaint data: 2013 Honda Accord

Honda calls it the VSA modulator assembly (57110-…, now often supplied as 04571-…): one assembly of hydraulic modulator and electronic control unit, with a number that changes by year, engine, transmission and body. For example: 57110-TA0-305 for the 2008–2010 four-cylinder sedan, 57110-TA0-415 for the 2011–2012 four-cylinder sedan, 57110-T2F-A17 for the 2013 EX and EX-L CVT, and 57110-T2F-X23 for the 2016–2017 SE and Sport CVT. Read the label on your own unit before ordering anything.

The 2008–2017 Honda Accord ABS codes, and what they usually mean

Seeing one of these on your scan tool? Here's what it usually points to on this vehicle.

81-20

Internal circuit failure (an owner's repair record)

Points at the modulator control unit itself; owners report it with 32-11 or 123-11 on failed 2013 units

121-11 to 124-11

VSA solenoid valve malfunction

The valve-driver circuits in the control unit; owners report 122-11 and 123-11 on failed 2013 units

151-11

Low-tire-pressure light with this code (2013 Accord)

A dealer software update to the VSA control unit (a Honda service bulletin), not a failed part: do not ship a unit for this code alone

85-01

Signal failure in the electric power steering module (an owner's repair record)

Can come from the power-steering side: check that unit and the network before shipping the modulator

11–18

Wheel sensor short, open, noise or intermittent signal, by corner

The sensor or its harness: Honda's procedure replaces the control unit only if the code returns after the sensor and its connections check out

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • On the 2013–2017 car, the dash lighting up at once: FCW System Failure with the LDW, power-steering, TPMS, VSA and ABS lights
  • VSA, ABS and brake lights on, with ABS not working
  • Code 81-20 (internal circuit failure) or VSA solenoid-valve codes (121-11 to 124-11) stored

Won't fix:

  • Wheel speed sensor failures (sensor replacement is on-car work)
  • Hydraulic pump or valve body mechanical failure (we repair electronics, not pump motors)
  • Brake line / fluid issues

Before you order

  • You diagnose, we service the module.

We don't have your car and we don't diagnose it. Order once you or your mechanic have confirmed this module is the cause. If the work is completed and the car still has the same symptom because of another fault, the work is still done — a bench re-test under warranty is free.

  • A clone copies what is in your module.

We transfer the data as we read it. If another shop or tool already worked on the module — an unfinished clone, a tune, a delete — that data can come across too. Tell us before you ship.

  • What "plug-and-play" means.

No dealer programming should be needed when your original data is intact, the donor matches your module (same type, hardware and software family) and the rest of the car works. It isn't a promise that the car will start or run.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

What to include in your box

  • Text us your codes first. A TPMS light alone with 151-11 on a 2013 car is a dealer software update; a VSA light right after steering-wheel or airbag work can come from the steering-angle sensor position (Honda ServiceNews); wheel-sensor codes point at a sensor.
  • Ship the electronic control unit, not the pump, unless we ask for the whole modulator; the pump and its brake lines stay on the car. Do not pry the unit off the pump: wiggle the pump gently until it releases, so the solenoids inside are not bent.
  • Put your VIN, the codes and the number from the label in the box. Taking only the control unit off leaves the brake lines closed, so no bleed is needed; if the whole modulator comes out, bleed the brakes after it goes back in.
  • We email you a prepaid label to send it in. Pick standard, 2-day or overnight return at checkout.

2008–2017 Honda Accord FAQ

Vehicle-specific answers.

Why does my 2013–2017 Accord light up the whole dash at once?
Owners describe the FCW System Failure message with the LDW, power-steering, TPMS, VSA and ABS lights all coming on, often on and off at first and then staying on. Repair records on those cars name the VSA modulator: code 81-20 (internal circuit failure) and solenoid-valve codes such as 123-11. Text us your codes and we tell you whether that is what you have.
How much does an Accord VSA modulator repair cost?
$499 flat to repair your own module, plus return shipping from $29.95. If testing shows the processor or board is beyond repair, a replacement board with data transfer and programming is $1,050 in total, with what you paid credited, and we only order it after you approve. For comparison, Honda lists a new 2013–2017 Accord unit at about $1,944 to $1,980 online before labor, and owners report dealer bills of $1,756 to $2,537.95 for the 2013.
Is the TPMS light this fault?
Not by itself. On the 2013 Accord, a low-tire-pressure light with code 151-11 is a dealer software update to the VSA control unit, not a failed part. If the TPMS light comes with the FCW, VSA and ABS lights, it is part of the pattern above.
Will the unit need programming after the repair?
In most cases, no. We repair the control unit that came out of your Accord, so it goes back in plug-and-play; a brand-new Honda unit gets software updates at the dealer when it is installed.
How long does the repair take?
About a week on the bench (2–3 business days with rush repair) at our Arlington TX workshop, plus shipping each way. Round-trip from anywhere in the US: typically about two weeks. If your module needs the replacement board, we tell you the timing when we quote it.
Does this fit the Civic, the Crosstour or the Acura ILX?
Those use their own Honda numbers, so text us a photo of the label and we confirm before you order.
Is there a recall on the Accord VSA modulator?
No. NHTSA's recalls for the 2008–2017 Accord include none for the VSA modulator, and we found no Honda warranty extension for it. Check your own VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup.
What exactly do I ship?
The electronic control unit from the VSA modulator, with your VIN, the codes and the number from its label. Leave the pump on the car, and wiggle it free rather than prying. We email a prepaid label, so sending it to us costs nothing.
