2005–2008 Audi A4 B7: what we see on the bench

From our bench

None of our ABS orders so far has been an Audi (our order records start in June 2026), so this page is built from the published sources below rather than from our own bench results. The 2005 model year includes both the B6 and the 2005.5 B7, so text us a photo of your unit's label before you order and we confirm which one you have.

How common it is

This is a known repair rather than a common complaint: of the 940 NHTSA complaints about the 2005–2008 A4, one describes a failed ABS/ESP module, on a 2005.5 A4 2.0T quattro (our count). NHTSA complaint data: 2005 Audi A4

Audi numbers the B6 and B7 units in the same 8E0 614 517 series with different suffixes. A B7 example is 8E0 614 517 AH, a Bosch ESP 8.0 unit with Bosch control module number 0 265 950 414. We have not confirmed that the S4, RS4 or the 2007–2009 A4 Cabriolet share it, so read the label on your own unit before ordering anything.

The 2005–2008 Audi A4 B7 ABS codes, and what they usually mean

Seeing one of these on your scan tool? Here's what it usually points to on this vehicle.

01130

ABS operation: implausible signal

Ross-Tech's causes run from fuses and wiring to the ABS control module (J104) itself; with fuses and wiring good, this is the code that points at the module. It clears only after a drive above 13 mph

16352

Control module fault

An internal fault of the ABS control unit itself

01276

ABS hydraulic pump (V64)

The pump connector, wiring, the pump or the module; Ross-Tech says to check the fuses near the battery first

01435

Brake pressure sensor 1 (G201)

The sensor sits inside the Bosch 8.0 unit; a basic setting clears some versions of this code, so try that first

00283 / 00290

Wheel-speed sensor, front left / rear left

The sensor or its wiring at that wheel, not the module; fix the sensor before shipping anything (00285 and 00287 are the right side)

01044

Control module incorrectly coded

Shows up after a replacement module goes in uncoded; repairing your original avoids it

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • ABS warning light on, with traction and stability control (ESP) switched off
  • No communication with the ABS module, and network faults stored in other modules
  • The ABS pump motor running on and on
  • The speedometer stopping, sometimes with the check-engine light
  • Code 01130 or 16352 coming back after it is cleared

Won't fix:

  • Wheel speed sensor failures (sensor replacement is on-car work)
  • Hydraulic pump or valve body mechanical failure (we repair electronics, not pump motors)
  • Brake line / fluid issues

Before you order

  • You diagnose, we service the module.

We don't have your car and we don't diagnose it. Order once you or your mechanic have confirmed this module is the cause. If the work is completed and the car still has the same symptom because of another fault, the work is still done — a bench re-test under warranty is free.

  • A clone copies what is in your module.

We transfer the data as we read it. If another shop or tool already worked on the module — an unfinished clone, a tune, a delete — that data can come across too. Tell us before you ship.

  • What "plug-and-play" means.

No dealer programming should be needed when your original data is intact, the donor matches your module (same type, hardware and software family) and the rest of the car works. It isn't a promise that the car will start or run.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

What to include in your box

  • Ship the electronic control module, not the hydraulic block, unless we ask for the whole unit. If you're not sure which part comes off, text us a photo of the unit and its label first.
  • Before you pull anything, check the fuses on top of the battery, the ABS module connector and the four wheel-speed sensors in live data.
  • Put your VIN, the codes and the number from the module label in the box. The 2005 model year includes both generations, so the label is what tells us which unit you have.
  • Taking only the control module off leaves the brake lines closed, so no bleed is needed. If the whole unit comes out, bag it against fluid leaks and bleed the brakes after it goes back in.
  • We email you a prepaid label to send it in. Pick standard, 2-day or overnight return at checkout.

2005–2008 Audi A4 B7 FAQ

Vehicle-specific answers.

Why is my A4's ABS light on with ESP switched off?
The ABS module runs anti-lock braking and the ESP stability control, so when it fails or loses its signal they switch off together. Code 01130 or 16352 with good fuses and wiring points at the module; a code that names one wheel, such as 00283, is that wheel sensor or its wiring instead.
How much does an Audi A4 ABS module repair cost?
$499 flat to repair your own module, plus return shipping from $29.95. If testing shows the processor or board is beyond repair, a replacement board with data transfer and programming is $1,050 in total, with what you paid credited, and we only order it after you approve. For comparison, RepairPal estimates $2,614 to $2,741 for a dealer replacement on an A4.
Is my 2005 A4 a B6 or a B7?
The 2005 model year has both: the B6 with a Bosch ESP 5.7 unit and the later "2005.5" B7 with Bosch ESP 8.0, and both carry 8E0 614 517 part numbers with different suffixes. The label on the unit settles it, so text us a photo.
Will the module need coding after the repair?
In most cases, no. We repair the module that came out of your A4, so it keeps its own coding and goes back in plug-and-play. A replacement module has to be coded to the car, or it sets code 01044.
How long does the repair take?
About a week on the bench (2–3 business days with rush repair) at our Arlington TX workshop, plus shipping each way. Round-trip from anywhere in the US: typically about two weeks. If your module needs the replacement board, we tell you the timing when we quote it.
Is there a recall on the A4 ABS unit?
No. Every NHTSA recall on the 2005–2008 A4, S4 and RS4 is for the front airbag inflators (or, in one case, an aftermarket water pump), and none touches the ABS or ESP unit. Check your own VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup to be sure.
What exactly do I ship?
The electronic control module from the ABS unit, with your VIN, the codes and the number from its label. Don't send the hydraulic block unless we ask for it; if you're not sure which part comes off, text us a photo first. We email a prepaid label, so sending it to us costs nothing.
