From our bench

None of our ABS orders so far has been an LR3 (our order records start in June 2026), so this page is built from Land Rover parts listings and the published sources below rather than from our own bench results. Text us a photo of the unit's label and your codes before you order.

How common it is

NHTSA's complaint file says little about this failure: across the 175 complaints about the 2005–2009 LR3, the only two that mention ABS describe warning lights inside a wider electrical fault, and none names the ABS unit (our count). NHTSA complaint data: 2005 Land Rover LR3

Land Rover sells the complete ABS modulator as LR019347 (superseding SRB500420, SRB500450 and SRB500520) for the Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport from 2006 on and the 2006–2009 Range Rover; earlier units carry numbers such as SRB500174 with Bosch control-module number 0 265 950 337. Read the label on your own unit before ordering anything.

The 2005–2009 Land Rover LR3 ABS codes, and what they usually mean

Seeing one of these on your scan tool? Here's what it usually points to on this vehicle.

C1095

ABS hydraulic pump motor circuit

A pump or motor fault that a module repair cannot fix on its own; check the pump fuse and relay first

C0110

ABS pump motor circuit malfunction

Confirm the motor's fuse and relay before condemning the pump or the module

C0265

ABS relay voltage malfunction

The relay, its fuse or the wiring first; then the module

C0031 / C0034 / C0037 / C0040

Wheel-speed sensor circuit: left front, right front, left rear, right rear

The sensor, its wiring or the tone ring, not the module; one LR3 owner cured the whole lamp cascade with a new front-left sensor

U0121

Lost communication with the ABS module

Matches the "lost comms" message: check the module fuse and supply, then the module

C1Axx

Air suspension codes read with the ABS faults

Not ABS codes: check which module reported each code before blaming the ABS unit

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • The "HDC fault" message with the ABS, DSC and brake lights on together
  • Terrain response and hill descent switched off, with the air suspension dropping to its lowered height
  • A "lost comms with Vehicle Dynamic Control Module" message in the message centre
  • No communication with the ABS module on a scan tool (code U0121)
  • A lamp cascade that comes straight back after a battery reset

Won't fix:

  • Wheel speed sensor failures (sensor replacement is on-car work)
  • Hydraulic pump or valve body mechanical failure (we repair electronics, not pump motors)
  • Brake line / fluid issues

Before you order

  • You diagnose, we service the module.

We don't have your car and we don't diagnose it. Order once you or your mechanic have confirmed this module is the cause. If the work is completed and the car still has the same symptom because of another fault, the work is still done — a bench re-test under warranty is free.

  • A clone copies what is in your module.

We transfer the data as we read it. If another shop or tool already worked on the module — an unfinished clone, a tune, a delete — that data can come across too. Tell us before you ship.

  • What "plug-and-play" means.

No dealer programming should be needed when your original data is intact, the donor matches your module (same type, hardware and software family) and the rest of the car works. It isn't a promise that the car will start or run.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

What to include in your box

  • Ship the electronic control module, not the hydraulic modulator, unless we ask for it; the modulator stays on the truck with its brake lines connected. If you're not sure which part comes off, text us a photo first.
  • Before you pull anything, rule out the cheap causes of the same lamp cascade: a wheel-speed sensor, the brake-light switch, battery voltage and water in the footwell or under the centre console.
  • Put your VIN, the codes (with the module that reported each one) and the number from the label in the box.
  • Taking only the control module off leaves the brake lines closed, so no bleed is needed. If the whole modulator comes out, the brakes are bled under pressure with a diagnostic tool after it goes back in.
  • We email you a prepaid label to send it in. Pick standard, 2-day or overnight return at checkout.

2005–2009 Land Rover LR3 FAQ

Vehicle-specific answers.

Why does my LR3 show "HDC fault" with the ABS, DSC and brake lights?
Hill descent, terrain response and stability control all depend on the ABS module and its wheel-speed signals, so when the module or one of those signals fails, the truck switches them off together and lowers the suspension. One owner's whole lamp cascade was a $45 front-left wheel-speed sensor, so read the codes before buying anything: codes C0031 to C0040 point at a sensor, U0121 at the module.
How much does an LR3 ABS module repair cost?
$499 flat to repair your own module, plus return shipping from $29.95. If testing shows the processor or board is beyond repair, a replacement board with data transfer and programming is $1,050 in total, with what you paid credited, and we only order it after you approve. For comparison, a new complete modulator (LR019347) sells for £2,588.52 before VAT in the UK; we found no US dealer price.
Does this fit the Range Rover Sport or LR4?
The 2006–2009 Range Rover Sport and the 2006–2009 Range Rover use the same modulator family as the LR3 (LR019347). The 2010 and later LR4 is a later unit, so text us its label first.
Will the module need configuring after the repair?
In most cases, no. We repair the module that came out of your truck, so it stays configured for it and goes back in plug-and-play. A used unit from another truck may need its VIN rewritten.
How long does the repair take?
About a week on the bench (2–3 business days with rush repair) at our Arlington TX workshop, plus shipping each way. Round-trip from anywhere in the US: typically about two weeks. If your module needs the replacement board, we tell you the timing when we quote it.
Is there a recall on the LR3 ABS unit?
No. NHTSA's recalls for the 2005–2009 LR3 cover the steering column, the fuel tank breather, the ignition switch, the transmission parking pawl and the seat belt buckles, and none touches the ABS unit. Check your own VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup to be sure.
What exactly do I ship?
The electronic control module from the ABS unit, with your VIN, the codes and the number from its label. Don't send the hydraulic modulator unless we ask for it; if you're not sure which part comes off, text us a photo first. We email a prepaid label, so sending it to us costs nothing.
