Second-generation Liberty (KK), every engine; Mopar sells its ABS control module on its own, with one number for 2008, one for 2009–2010 and one for 2011–2012

2008–2012 Jeep Liberty: what we see on the bench

From our bench

None of our ABS orders so far has been a Liberty (our order records start in June 2026), so this page is built from Mopar's parts listings and the published sources below rather than from our own bench results. Text us your codes and a photo of the module's label before you order.

How common it is

NHTSA's complaint file says little about a failed module: 9 of the 541 complaints about the 2008 Liberty and 10 of the 181 about the 2011 mention ABS (our count). Most describe wider electrical faults, and five 2011 owners describe brakes dragging or locking up with the ABS lights on. NHTSA complaint data: 2011 Jeep Liberty

Mopar sells the Liberty's ABS control module on its own, a box of about 2 to 3 lb that bolts to the hydraulic unit: 68025876AC (replacing AA and AB) for 2008, 68043465AA for 2009–2010 and 68079344AA for 2011–2012, each listed for the Liberty only and now discontinued. The brake pressure sensor sits in the hydraulic unit, not in the module. Read the label on your own module before ordering anything.

The 2008–2012 Jeep Liberty ABS codes, and what they usually mean

Seeing one of these on your scan tool? Here's what it usually points to on this vehicle.

C1073

ABS pump motor control circuit

ECU Testing, a UK module specialist, lists it as the common code on this Jeep as sold in the UK (as the Cherokee). The pump motor sits on the hydraulic unit, so the code alone does not say whether the module or the motor failed: text us the codes before you ship

C121D

Brake pressure sensor

Points at the hydraulic unit, not the module. On a 2012 Liberty in a Mitchell 1 shop case it came back after a new module was fitted, because the hydraulic unit had been damaged when the old module was pried off it

No communication

Scan tool cannot reach the ABS module

Check the module fuses, power and ground first; in the same Mitchell 1 case the failed module took the speedometer with it

Wheel-speed sensor (one corner)

Sensor, tone ring or wiring at one wheel

Test that sensor and its wiring first; several corners at once, or no communication, point at the module

Will This Fix My Problem?

Honest answer: here's exactly what this service fixes — and what it doesn't.

Fixes:

  • ABS and traction (ESP) lights on together, with normal brakes still working
  • The speedometer stopping with the ABS light on
  • A scan tool that cannot reach the ABS module, with its power and ground checked

Won't fix:

  • Wheel speed sensor failures (sensor replacement is on-car work)
  • Hydraulic pump or valve body mechanical failure (we repair electronics, not pump motors)
  • Brake line / fluid issues

Before you order

  • You diagnose, we service the module.

We don't have your car and we don't diagnose it. Order once you or your mechanic have confirmed this module is the cause. If the work is completed and the car still has the same symptom because of another fault, the work is still done — a bench re-test under warranty is free.

  • A clone copies what is in your module.

We transfer the data as we read it. If another shop or tool already worked on the module — an unfinished clone, a tune, a delete — that data can come across too. Tell us before you ship.

  • What "plug-and-play" means.

No dealer programming should be needed when your original data is intact, the donor matches your module (same type, hardware and software family) and the rest of the car works. It isn't a promise that the car will start or run.

Shipping Instructions

These details are also emailed to you the moment your payment clears.

What to include in your box

  • Ship the electronic control module, not the hydraulic unit; the pump stays on the vehicle. Mopar sells the module on its own, a box of about 2 to 3 lb.
  • Separate the two gently and fully before you pull the module away: on a 2012 Liberty in a Mitchell 1 shop case, prying the module off damaged the hydraulic unit, which then had to be replaced.
  • Brakes dragging or locking up rather than just a warning light? Tell us before you ship: one 2011 owner told NHTSA the lock-ups came back after the dealer replaced both the module and the hydraulic unit.
  • Put your VIN, the codes and the number from the label in the box. Taking only the module off leaves the brake lines closed, so no bleed is needed; if the whole unit comes out, bleed the brakes after it goes back in.
  • We email you a prepaid label to send it in. Pick standard, 2-day or overnight return at checkout.

2008–2012 Jeep Liberty FAQ

Vehicle-specific answers.

Why are the ABS and traction lights on together on my Liberty?
One ABS control module runs anti-lock braking, traction control and stability control, so when it fails inside they switch off together and the lights come on; on one 2012 Liberty in a Mitchell 1 shop case the speedometer stopped as well. A code that names one wheel points at that wheel-speed sensor or its wiring instead.
How much does a Liberty ABS module repair cost?
$499 flat to repair your own module, plus return shipping from $29.95. If testing shows the processor or board is beyond repair, a replacement board with data transfer and programming is $1,050 in total, with what you paid credited, and we only order it after you approve. For comparison, RepairPal estimates $718 to $781 for a dealer or shop replacement, and Mopar listed its now-discontinued new modules online at $368 to $477 before installation and setup.
Is a new module cheaper than the repair?
It can be, if you can still find one: Mopar lists all three Liberty modules as discontinued, and a new one has to be installed and initialized by a shop with the right scan tool. Repairing your own keeps its coding, so it goes back in plug-and-play in most cases. Compare the total for your Liberty before you choose.
My brakes drag or lock up. Will this fix it?
Text us before you order. Five 2011 owners told NHTSA their brakes dragged or locked with the ABS lights on, and one owner's lock-ups came back after the dealer replaced both the module and the hydraulic unit, so a module repair alone is not a proven fix for that. A warning light with normal brakes is the case this repair is for.
How long does the repair take?
About a week on the bench (2–3 business days with rush repair) at our Arlington TX workshop, plus shipping each way. Round-trip from anywhere in the US: typically about two weeks. If your module needs the replacement board, we tell you the timing when we quote it.
Does this fit the Dodge Nitro?
Not confirmed. The Nitro shares the Liberty's platform, but Mopar lists the three Liberty modules for the Liberty only, so text us a photo of your module's label first.
Is there a recall on the Liberty ABS module?
No. NHTSA's recalls for the 2008–2012 Liberty include none for the ABS module or the hydraulic unit. The 2010 Liberty has a free recall (10V-315) for the brake tube between the master cylinder and the hydraulic unit, worth checking if you see a leak. Check your own VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup.
What exactly do I ship?
The electronic ABS control module, with your VIN, the codes and the number from its label. Leave the hydraulic unit on the vehicle, and separate the two gently so the hydraulic unit is not damaged. We email a prepaid label, so sending it to us costs nothing.
